Las Vegas questions!

Message: Hi. I have a couple of q's re: Las Vegas in April. First, I've narrowed it down to Paris, Monte Carlo and Mandalay Bay. Would appreciate info re: size of rooms, romance level and the pool area at the Paris (which I've heard nothing about) Also, will Easter week be filled with kids? Thanks!

Yes, of course, Las Vegas will have lots of visitors with kids as well as some college kids whose Spring Break coincides with that time.
Oddly enough, the only website I know of that is specific about room sizes is an unusual one:

http://www.cheapovegas.com

Don't be entirely put off by the name --Casino Boy is very specific about a lot of things.

Paris will be your least "crowded with kids" choice. Mandalay Bay has the whole surf/wave thing going and Monte Carlo advertises a little wave pool as well so families often gravitate towards these. The pool at Paris has no gimmicks but is quite formal, large lounging area, little cabanas you can rent for the day, some with TV,etc. I liked it. Remember that pools in Vegas are closed until March, so I am not sure how much warmth you will get either inside the water or out. I never saw the rooms at Mandalay Bay but they have a very good rating and are spacious. I would say that the rooms at Paris come in a close second and Monte Carlo a definite third. The bathrooms at Paris are done nicely, with separate shower. Beds and furnishings are upscale, rooms are quite soundproof(we found). We would stay at Paris again.

Mandalay Bay is beautiful -- huge rooms, huge bathrooms, great restaurants, great casino. Although it does have the wave pool that attracts families, I have stayed there 3 times and never noticed it to be filled with kids. Eater week, particularly the weekend, is a very busy time in Vegas, as is any holiday weekend. Also, although it should be mild in Vegas, I've been there twice around Easter and it has not been warm enough to swim.

every week is "Eater week" in Vegas, it's the buffet capital of the universe.

And April is tough topredict weatherwise. Can be very warm (90's) or can be a little coolish.

Mandalay is the best of the hotels you mentioned, geri, by far.

When is some Vegas entrepeneur going to build a hotel/casino with an "no one under 21 allowed" policy?
I've read this forum for ages and there are so many people seeking a hotel that has few/no kids.
We'd be willing to pay extra for this; I don't want screaming/whiny little kids and I don't want running, jumping, shouting older kids, and I won't want teens carrying boom boxes or earphones stuck in their ears bumping into me because they have no manners, nor do I want them making dashes into slot areas to drop in a bet.

But "Wondering", your dream hotel already exists!! It's called Bellagio.
No, kids aren't entirely excluded, (children not allowed on premises unless escorted by a parent staying at the hotel) but the clear message at the hotel is "kids not welcome".
High prices and the somewhat 'stuffy' atmosphere discourage parents with kids, too. The pool is most definitely the most sedate of any large hotel in LV (as regards noise/clamoring kids).

I agree with Bellagio! Even the standard rooms are great, ALL the beds are pillowtop mattresses and feather pillows. The bathrooms are huge with a big separate shower and a jacuzzi tub. We did not see very many kids at all, they do have to be guests.

All the rooms in Vegas (except suites) are not all that spectacular. There nice but not so nice to prevent you from being down in the casino. I've stayed at a lot (Paris of the three you mention) Vegas Hotels and found them all about the same.

Oh come on now, David, how can you make such a statement??
There's great similarity between the rooms at Bellagio/Venetian and, say, the Sahara or Barbary Coast???
Gimme a break.
The rooms at the Bellagio and Venetian are FAR nicer than those found in any hotel in many large US cities and they're among the nicest standard rooms of any found in any hotel in the WORLD.
And I agree that the suites are considerably nicer at Bellagio and Four Seasons than the standard rooms, but your statement is flat out wrong and misleading to people who have never visited LV.

To Truth Please -- David is actually quite correct as far as the SIZE of the room is concerned. And as far as the Bellagio's standard rooms, he is also right in that they truly are NOT that impressive at all (with the exception of the bathroom). And, for your own information, I find the standard rooms in any Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons far nicer than those at the Bellagio, although the hotel itself is wonderful. Of course, the rooms at the Venetian are quite large -- however, the water pressure in the shower is so LOUSY I would NEVER return there! And the bed isn't that comfortable! And the room service meals are not impressive either which also is NOT true for any Ritz or Four Seasons! In contrast, the water pressure at the Bellagio is excellent and their room service meals are so much better than the Venetian's!!

Don't mean to be needlessly argumentative, Ed, but look again at David's statement: :all the rooms in Vegas are not that spectacular" and they're "all about the same". My point is that for people reading here who are using this info to select a hotel in LV, this statement is very misleading...there's a HUGE difference in quality from bottom-end to top in LV.
As for your comments, if you can tell me that you think the rooms at the Four Seasons LV and the Four Seasons in Wailea, Chicago, Milan or Paris are in the same league I'll back down. (But they are like entirely different classes of hotel).
And as for consistency, try comparing the Ritz in Kansas City (just sold to Fairmont) or downtown Atlanta to the one in Naples, FL! Or the Four Seasons in Santa Barbara (yuck!) to the one in Paris! There's so much range in quality that you'd never guess they were managed/owned by the same corp.
The Four Seasons in LV left me very disappointed.
Of course maintaining premium level service in ANY 4000 room hotel is going to be difficult (especially with unemployment at 2% in LV). Not a fair comparison of a LV hotel (Bellagio) versus The Four Seasons Beverly Hills, which has 170 rooms, for example.
So for what you pay, standard upscale hotel rooms in LV are very nice IMO, while the lower end hotels (ever been inside a room in the back lot at Circus Circus, Ed? Cement block walls with a coat of paint over them?) are quite humble, as in any other city.

Truth Please -- we could go 'round and 'round on this one and I really don't want to do that. However, I just want to add that I had an executive suite at the Four Seasons in Las Vegas, and it, along with the rest of the hotel, was EXCELLENT, and I would return there again! On the other hand, their hotel in Palm Beach was more akin to a Sheraton -- VERY disappointing -- and in Palm Beach, no less!!
