My husband and I plan on celebrating his b-day in Vegas the end of May or beginning of June. Any ideas on good package deals? Where is a nice place to stay? What good shows have you been to and really enjoyed? What else is there to do besides gamble, shop and see shows? Thanks.

Caesars is a great mid strip location

Luxor is really nice...at south end of strip but wasn't a problem for us.

Definitely see Blue Man Group at Luxor...Mystere at Treasure Island...both great shows

I'm sure we'd be happy to help, but this is what people need to know to help you plan Vegas:

-what days of the week will you be staying (hotels on Fri+Sat are 2-3 times the cost of the same room on Sun-Thur)

-what is your hotel budget

-what type of hotels do you typically stay at? (are your typical hotel a Days Inn, Shertaton, Four Seasons, etc?)

Best shows in Vegas are Mystere or O (personally i liked Mystere better) and Blue Man Group. I've heard Danny Gans is a great entertainer as well. Don't get suckered into seeing Seigfried and Roy.

Forgot to add:

-where are you leaving from? very often (especially in Vegas) you can get a better deal if you book the air and hotel separately, rather than a package

Thanks for your assistance. Plan to arrive in LV Thur night and leave Monday afternoon. Will be leaving from Seattle. Don't want to spend more than $100.00 night and stay on the strip.

It's probably a bit early to find good deals for end of May/begin June. Unlike other hotel markets, Las Vegas room prices can change daily, and often the "deals" don't present themselves until 2-3 months before. You're budget is do-able, but tight, as that time of year is busy in Vegas as the weather is warm but not TOO hot.

Visiting a few hotel websites found rates that were over your budget (checking for 5/31-6/3 as an example). Typical average rates were ~$145.

However, checking Expedia i found (rates are average for your stay, as Fri+Sat are much more expensive than Thur+Mon):
Harrah's $105/nite
Tropicana (Tower) $102/nite
Bally's $94/nite
Flamingo $105
Barbary Coast $72/nite (keep in mind, Barbary Coast does NOT have a pool, in case that is important to you)

My advice would be to book a "back-up" reservation (one that is fully refundable, which i DON"T think Expedia is, but i'm not sure) and then keep a look out for good deals near the beginning of April.

Other sites people here have recommended are vegas.com, cheapoveagas.com, lvol.com and each hotel's site.

I checked (and am still checking) them all. I agree with the "backup" plan.

I would recommend a side trip. On our first trip to Vegas, we went to Grand Canyon West. The 2nd trip we went to Valley of Fire. Both times we traveled with a tour company and both times we were the only couple booked on those tours, so we basically had our own tour guide. The GC West tour is an all day tour 7 am to 6 p.m., and it's awesome. They take you to the river (on an indian reservation - the only road that you can drive down to the river) and then to the top. There are no railings and usually no other people. It's an awesome way to see the GC from both the top and bottom. You'd have to hike down otherwise. And, you're still back in time to shower and hit the casinos at night. The Valley of Fire tour is a half day tour, and very awesome in a totally different way. We took both trips with action tours (actiontours.com), but there are other companies. I do, however, recommend them. Have fun.
