Las Vegas:New York New York?

We're going for a 2 night midweek stay in Las Vegas at the end of April. We've looked at New York New York as an hotel option as it seems fun and different. We haven't found any reviews of the hotel though from previous guests so we're not sure if its a good choice.Should we stay there or consider soemthing else? We're after a spectacular hotel with a WOW factor, which is fun and convenient.

If your're after a spectacular hotel with WOW factor as you state, then NYNY is a good choice. I continue to marvel at the authenticity of the place, complete with steam rising from the manhole covers. On the down side, it is big, noisy and very crowded as it is a tourist attraction in and of itself. I have never stayed there, so I can't tell you about the rooms, etc. Try the discussion board at www.lvol.com.

My hubby & I have only been to Vegas once which was this past Sept. We stayed at Treasure Island which was a great choice for us. We were close to most of the core hotels and things that we wanted to do. NYNY is on the other end of the strip, across from MGM and next to the Excalibur. Since you are looking for a fun, convenient hotel, NYNY seems like a good choice for fun since there is a roller coaster and the Hard Rock Cafe, however, you are at the end of the strip which is a walk and a half to other hotels such as Caesar's Palace, Paris and the Venetian.

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for on this vacation so feel free to e-mail me with any questions and I'll try to help you out. My hubby and I are 33 and 30 and we had a blast in LV!

Spectacular how? For exterior and interior thematic uniqueness/ingenuity/design NYNY is tops in LV.
Rooms are very average. Prices, though, are fair IMO. Hotel is crowded, noisy, but fun. Everybody visits, but some nearby hotels provide a better 'oasis' from the bustle of LV.
I don't see location as a negative because there are great places around it: MGM, Luxor (another thematic marvel), Mandalay Bay, etc. You can't be close to EVERYTHING in LV...it's just too darned big.

True the hotel is at one end of the strip, and Bellagio,CP et al is at the other, however, there is a tram from the MGM Grand(across the street) to Ballys, and a tram from Monte Carlo(next door) to Bellagio. Also, there is not a Hard Rock Cafe at NYNY, there is a Motown Cafe. The Hard Rock is a quick taxi ride away. Have a great time, I just came back.

We stayed at NYNY last February. The price was right, the rooms were typical and nothing spectacular. If you stay, ask for a room overlooking the strip on a higher level so that the roller coaster noise doesn't bother you too much. For us it was basically "white noise" and not bothersome at all. The place was too busy for my taste and I'd probably stay somewhere else next time, but like I said the price was right. Good dueling pianos bar, decent mexican restaurant. We had no problem walking to other casinos mentioned above.

There is NO "wow" factor at that hotel whatsoever!! There is NOTHING about the hotel that is impressive either!! You'd be better off at the MGM Grand -- or even the Venetian if you're looking for something truly LUXURIOUS!

My wife and I stayed there on our last visit and the rooms are okay, but not great. What they didn't tell us upon making reservations or check-in was that they were assessing a $75/day to our account ("soft-hold") as kind of a phone/movie deposit-guarantee type thing. And we used a Visa debit card instead of a credit card...so they were tapped into our checking account. Only we didn't know about it until we withdrew some cash from an ATM and saw our balance off by approximately $525. To make a long story short, the "soft-hold" on our money was not lifted until AFTER our vacation. And that was after talking to people at the Front Desk, Guest Relations, and finally Accounting. We ALWAYS try to greet people with a smile and treat people nicely, and we received nothing but apathy and rudeness (a little too much actual NYNY realism for us).

There are plenty of great places to stay in Vegas, but if you're trying to stay comparable with NYNY in price and location, go to MGM. The rooms are nicer, the staff is nicer, and it's overall a better property.

I started not to respond since I haven't stayed in a room at NYNY, but I have visited there on several occasions. It's a fun place to visit, but I don't want to stay there. Actually, at night it's been so crowded that I couldn't move through the casino aisles; I won't go back at night. I am 50, and, while I think I'm young, I don't really enjoy large crowds and extremely noisy casinos. My idea of spectacular is the Bellagio, and it's my hotel of choice since I stayed there last year. Just thought I'd offer another opinion. My true feeling is that Las Vegas itself is original enough for anyone to enjoy thoroughly. You'll have a great time wherever you stay.

Now I don't feel so bad since I've seen others with less than outstanding opinions of the place. We're planning on going back in several months, and I think we may actually stay in one of the older places, like the Flamingo Hilton, to get a real taste of Vegas and a lot more comfort.

NYNY is neat to see, but there are much better places to stay. It is very loud and crowded. The Bellagio is beautiful, the Monte Carlo and MGM Grande have nice rooms and interesting things to see for about the same price as NYNY. The Rio is my favorite place to stay, the absolute best buffets (and I am not a buffet eater) and great night clubs and free entertainment throughout the casino. It is located a quick cab ride from the strip. The rooms are spacious mini suites. It is worth looking into!

If you want a WOW type of hotel, I would not stay at the NYNY. The NYNY is like being in NYC during lunchtime - it's packed! If you want WOW, try the Bellagio or the Venetian. Even the Mirage or Ceasars. NYNY is fun for kids, but way crowded.

Spectacular and Wow are not the words I'd use to describe NYNY. It would be more like overdone (even for 'Vegas), and yucky. We did not stay there so I can't say anything about rooms, but we walked through and I could not wait to get out - crowded, ugly, and just plain uncomfortable feeling. We've visited 'Vegas many many times over the years and stayed in quite a few hotels. If you can spring for it go for the Bellagio - it's classy and has a lot more "wow" than any of the others. It's also center strip which makes it very handy for visiting other places. Our favorites have been the Mirage, Treasure Island and also the Flamingo Hilton. It's an older hotel, but recently remodeled and they have a beautiful pool area. The location is probably the best in 'Vegas too. NYNY would be my last choice and to be honest Paris would be my next to last - again very very overdone, and we thought the casino was claustrophobic what with the artificial "sky" ceiling. Don't get that feeling at Ceasars tho & they have that same type of ceiling in the shopping mall area.
