Las Vegas hotels

The stratosphere is not on my list of places you'd want to stay. While it is certainly worth visiting (especially the top at night) the hotel has done very poorly because it has little to offer and the location is lacking.
The stratosphere sits at the very top of the strip and is not within walking distance of almost anything.
I can only assume that the reason you have singled out the stratosphere is because you found amazing rates. The reason they are amazing is because they practicly have to pay people to stay there. Only stay there if money is a very big problem and everything else closer to the heart of the strip is booked.

Larry, We stayed at the Stratoshpere in July. It was OK and reasonable rates. There are some restaurants in the hotel that are ok. Nothing specatcular but the food was good. We didn't eat at the restaurant on top. There is a nice shopping area in the tower. The previous poster was correct. It is a long way from anywhere else. We did walk to Fremont Street the first night. LONG WALK! But we are walkers although we took a cab back. Once we got our bearing it was easy to get around in the hotel. The worst part was the 98 degree heat. We rented a car and used that to get to other places on the strip. Parking is not a problem. Just remember which hotel you park at. We probably wouldn't stay there again just because it is so far away but in 5-10 years it will probably be in the middle of things if they keep building. Have a good time and good luck.

Larry, I would not stay at the Stratosphere. It is just too far away from all the action. The view at the top is nice but you can also go to the Rio and anjoy the nice view there. A co-worker of mine stayed at the Stratosphere a few weeks ago for 18.00 per night. You get what you pay for. If this is your first time in Vegas may I suggest something nicer like the Paris or Mirage casinos. Whatever you decide, enjoy your trip.

My father-in-law stayed there last week and did not have high marks for it. I agree with the other posters - there are so many other hotels that would be better. I don't know your price range, but I had friends at Mirage, Monte Carlo, Circus Circus and we stayed at Bellagio and then Aladdin. Bellagio, Mirage and Monte Carlo were nice. Circus Circus and Aladdin would not be on my recommendation list... Paris did look nice, Mandalay Bay was very nice...

I wouldn't recommend it either. I've been to Vegas a few times and walked from the South end of the strip all the way to the Stratosphere. It was a looooong, all day walk, and we were disappointed when we finally got there. Even the dealers seemed pissed off about being there. If what you're looking for is something cheap near the action, try the Excalibur. It's one of the older big theme hotels and looks kind of cheezy, but it has a monorail that takes you to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay. The Tropicana is also an older but pretty well maintained one near Excalibur.
