Las Vegas Hotels
I am planning my first trip to Las Vegas this fall. I have heard that Bellagio and the Venetian are the top hotels, but have heard good things about the Mirage and Paris. My question is if the Bellagio and Venetian really justify the extra 100 to 120 dollars a night over the Mirage and Paris. I have had to do a lot of talking to get my husband to go to Las Vegas, he doesn't really like gambling. I've been told that there is a lot more to Las Vegas than gambling, but I am figuring that this might be my only time there so I want to stay someplace special with that "Vegas" feel to it. Suggestions?

All of the places you mentioned would be just fine. It just depends on how much money you want to spend. For me, I would go with the cheapest. You don't want your husband thinking he's breaking the bank either.
Don't worry. Las Vegas is a great place to visit even if you don't gamble. Lot's to see and experience.
He'll proabably love it once he's there.

Joan> true, all four of those hotels are nice, but if you what the most bang for your buck stay at the Venetian...its a ALL suite hotel,,the rooms are HUGE!!! sunken living room, the bathroom is as big as soom rooms I've stayed in. Its right in the middle of the strip more or less so you dont have to go far either way to catch the other sites..and your right, you dont have to gamble to have fun there..wish I just could rememebr that *S*..

All of the hotels that you mentioned are nice. My goal of this trip (besides having a great time) would be to show your husband that there is more to Vegas than gambling, and it is a great value destination (IF you can stay away from the gambling tables).
Go with the cheaper hotels that you mentioned (they still are quite nice) and perhaps you're husband will be more inclined to returning to Vegas if he doesn't feel like he didn't get ripped off (which he may if he won't appreciate the "poshness" of the Venetian or Bellagio).
Things i enjoy:
White Tigers at Mirage
Volcano at Mirage
Pirate Show at Treasure Island (well... not really, but gotta put it on a list like this)
Fountain Show at Bellagio
Ceilings in Lobby at Venetian
Trafalgar Square at Venetian
(all the above are free)

We have gone to Vegas three times in the last 2 years and stayed at MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay. Mandalay was wonderful and the beach was fun. We were there for conferences and I think we got a special rate, but it was very nice. MGM was nice too, we just prefer the water stuff. Be sure to see the water show at the Bellagio and go up in the Eiffel Tower, it's a wonderful view, if heights don't bother you. Personally, I wouldn't spend too much on your hotel, you might not be there much. good luck and have fun!!!

I've stayed at both Venetian and Bellagio. While Venetian has all-suites, I felt the hotel was just to big to provide any real service. Bellagio, is definately nicer hotel and a bit less hectic.
In terms of high end vs. lower price, it really is a question of the type of hotel you would normally stay at on vacation. If you would typically stay at a high end hotel (Four Season, Ritz-Carlton), stay at Bellagio as you may feel more comfortable there. If you are more comfortable at mid-priced hotel (Hilton, Sheraton, Hyatt, etc.) Paris would be a fine choice.
If you choose Bellagio, MAKE sure you get tickets to "O". It is a great show that is a tough ticket for non-guests of the hotel.

One of the best kept secrets in Vegas is the Four Seasons. At the very end of the strip, it is the top floors of the Mandalay Bay. We stumbled onto it when not much else was available, and ended up with a suite 36 floors up overlooking the strip.
The Mandalay Bay and Four Seasons have a lot for non-gamblers. Outdoor beach, shark tanks, awesome restaurants, etc. Now it is the only place we stay when we go.

The four hotels you mention are all great. The one thing that you want is location as you will do a lot of walking on the Strip. Have stayed at MGM and Venetian and liked the Venetian better. How many days are you going for? You must take a day trip to the Hoover Dam. On my last trip there, a long weekend, I didn't get to play and slots or games. The Canyon Ranch Day Spa is located in the Venetian. It's great! You can take a yoga class, have a facial or massage. Your husband can climb the rock "wall" and work out in the gym! There is so much to do!

Hi Joan-
My husband had a confernece at the Bellagio in February, and we went 2 days earlier for a little R&R. We stayed at the Mirage. I honestly liked the Mirage better. We had a really nice view, and the pool was prettier and had nicer landscaping. It was lush. One of the Bellagio's pools was closed, meaning kids had taken over the other one. It just wasn't nearly as tranquil and nice. The room at the Bellagio was a little nicer, but no bigger. The bathrooms were both VERY nice and had plenty of space. For the money, I'd go with the Mirage- easily. I will say I liked the casino at the Bellagio better. The dealers there were very nice to me- a blackjack novice- and didn't seem to get tired of me asking questions or betting small amounts. Hope that's helpful!

Last year I stayed at the Luxor which was fun and adequate but vowed on my return that I would stay at Mandalay Bay. It's just such a perfect place with the water areas, the spa, etc. The thing that sealed the deal, though was that Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt were there. I figure if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me!
