Las Vegas Hotel on the Strip

We will be spending two days at the end of August and want a good room on the Strip for less than $250 a night. Any recommendations?

Have a look at www.smartervegas.com

Book something you can cancel, and keep checking rates, including where you're booked. Rates tend to go down as your dates approach. But, you have to pick up the phone and call to get the rates changed to an existing reservation.

We stayed at Treasure Island in a suite the 1st of July for $173.00 after taxes. Very nice room with a jacuzzi tub and right in the middle of the strip. I would love to try the Venitian or Ceaser's next time.

Depending on when you go, best rooms are at the Palazzo, Venetian, Wynn, and Bellagio.

if the above are too expensive in your time frame, the Mirage's room have all just been redone, or should be completed in August.
That would be my choice if the other hotels are too much...

If prices are as reasonable as dmlove reports for your visit, my recommendations would be: Wynn, Belagio, Venetian, Mirage.

I stayed in Mandalay Bay and the Luxor. The Mandalay rooms were unbelievably great, but it was all the way at the end of the strip. The Luxor was ok. I heard that Barbary Coast was nice, but the name has changed.

Barbary Coast is now Bill's. We really liked that place, which we selected primarily for the location, and that your room is not a long hike to the Strip.

Your best bet by far is to use Priceline. Are you familiar with how to use it?

I disagree about Priceline in Vegas...especially for a strip hotel...the hotels own websites are better.

Check out www.vegas-promotions.com for a consolidated list of all the current deals.

We always stay at Paris. Last December 4-8, our rooms were $116 a night. I like the location and size of Paris. I enjoy walking out every chance I get and viewing the Bellagio fountains across the street.

Paris has a calendar on website with the prices of every night for 2 months.

They also accept AAA card on the phone.

Two summers ago I stayed at the Venetian for $125 (Priceline). It was a gorgeous place, but we spent so little time in the room that the next time I stayed at the Flamingo for $55. And when I return in December I'll be back at the Flamingo for $45. It's perfectly adequate and the pools are great. If you're not going to spend lots of time in your room, save your money!

Priceline was excellent for Las Vegas for 5* bidding until recently. If you don't check prices individually beforehand it is easy to overbid for a 4*. Since the Trump hotel is now coming up as a 5* on the north strip it's a roll of the dice whether or not you'll get it. Trump is not on the strip proper, a bit of a trek behind the strip, need a car/taxi much of the time. And is non gaming, a total Priceline dud. If you bid 5* south strip you'll get the Mandalay Bay and it's a trek to other casinos from that location. The Wynn/Palazzo-Venetian corner is now the most popular and the Mirage/Caesar's is adjacent.

when I checked in at the Venetian and mentioned I'd paid $125 on Priceline because the Venetian website said $149, the desk clerk said they would have matched it if I'd called beforehand. Of course, that would be hard to do since you have to "win" the Priceline hotel before finding out where you're staying, but you COULD try calling the hotel directly and telling them a friend of yours paid less through Priceline and see if they'll drop the price.

The MGM Grand has the first "ultra pool," called Wet Republic. It's like a nightclub, only poolside and under the sun. Fun pix: http://www.newsday.com/travel/destin...4.photogallery

Last year I stayed at Excalibur for $85/night Sun-Thurs. It doubles on Fri and 3x on Sat. At least there you can catch the "douce" bus before the rest of the strip does and you wait in line elsewhere. Excalibur is 3* near 4* hotels. It had everthing we needed. $5.95 steak meal at 5:30 pm for the rest of the night. Goggle MGM and sign up to get emails to all MGM hotels-Mirage and Excalibur for deals and discount times. I still get emails. Then there is the old hotel/casinos like Golden Nugget, etc but they are far from the new part. BUT you WIN more often and bigger on slots in the old part than the new. The Douce bus takes you up/down the strip for about $2; to the old and new part.
