Las Vegas Hotel for "50-somethings"

My parents would like to take a trip to Las Vegas in March. Any suggestions for a reasonably priced hotel in the middle of all the action? Does anyone know how New York, New York is? What about the Bellagio? Thanks!

All vegas hotels are for 50 somethings. But the Mirage is the best. Center of the strip unlike the very nice New York New York which is at the northern end. (Too much walking to get to the other Hotels and Casinos everyday.)

I stayed at Luxor hotel on the south end of the strip last June and it is beautiful (get the tower rooms, not the pyramid). However there was a lot of walking to get to MGM monorail to Bally's on mid-strip.
For inexpensive reservations (just plug in the dates) and a comparison of most hotels for that night try www.lvrs. com Las Vegas Reservation Systems seems to be the most inexpensive around.

NY,NY is at the southern end of the strip, not the northern. There are many nice hotels to stay at. I personally favor the Flamingo Hilton becaue of its fantastic pools and great location. It is right across from Caesars' and the Bellagio. The Bellagio is one of the best but definitely falls in the upper price range.

We like Bally's because of its central location, proximity to monorail to south strip and the rooms seem a bit bigger than most. Mirage is also nice. I would saty away from the south end of the strip...Luxor, Excaliber etc due to long walking ddistances and the tendency for morekids to be staying at those hotels.

We also prefer the Flamingo Hilton because of the superb location, next to Bally's, across the street from Bellagio, Caesar's Palace and Mirage. If not at the Flamingo, I'd pick Mirage.

Jennifer-
The best priced hotel in the MIDDLE of the action is Imperial Palace and they will give great comps for play. Harrah's is a little higher but a great value and action-packed casino. Mirage and Treasure Island are beautiful but higher priced. At the South end is Tropicana, Excalibur, NYNY, MGM, and I've listed them by price too cheap to most expensive. Next to MGM is Bally's and next to NYNY is Monte Carlo; next to Excalibur is Luxor. Of the bunch, I'd pick Monte Carlo for its elegance and lower price, Luxor for its "Must-See" standing as well as NYNY for the same reason. MGM is too big and easy to get lost in. However, our favorite is still Excalibur. For more information BEFORE they leave click on

THE VEGAS VISITOR there has great articles posted. Tell your parents to have fun!

Jennifer- My parents are doing the same thing and are in their early 50's. My mom stayed at the MGM before and didn't really like it because it is so masssive- too overwhelming. I actually suggested she stay at the Monte Carlo. I've stayed there before and it's pretty inexpensive compared to other hotels and it's fairly new. I've stayed at the Mirage and the hotel is very nice but not sure if it is worth its price. The Mirage is in the "center" of the strip but most of the newer hotels are before Treasure Island (next to Mirage). I hear NY NY is pretty nice and is next to Monte Carlo. I'd have them stay at either of those two. Bellagio I'm sure is beautiful but so expensive.

I just got back from four days at NY NY. While the rooms were nice, I wouldn't recommend it to others. It was the busiest/most congested casino/registration area I encountered. The restaurants were nothing to write home about either. Check out Bellagio. It's a beautiful place ... but as you've seen in a lot of postings here, people have been scared off by the price. I've heard that they're running mega-specials trying to fill the house (instead of $200+ per night, they're asking $79). If you can get it, take it. Otherwise, the old standbys, Mirage, Bally's, Harrahs, Flamingo, all would probably suit you fine. There's a number of Las Vegas discussion boards you can subscribe to.
