Las Vegas Hotel Choice needed NOW!
I need some help quickly! We have a choice of the Ex Calibur, Treasure Island, Luxor, or Sahara in late July for 5 days. Which is best? The cheapest by far is Sahara. Is it okay or should we move up? We are celebrating our 5th anniv. and want a nice place but not too expensive.

kelli, if you are going midweek in vegas in late July you should be able to get decent deals at most properties. I would stay away from the Sahara and Excalibur out of your choices. Treasure Island and Luxor are nice, but you could probably find comparable rooms/rates at other properties depending on the days of the week you are going. If you like pools, I'd try Flamingo, Mandalay Bay, Hard Rock and the Rio. I'd stay away from the Ho like the plague unless you absolutely do not care where you stay. Caesar's, Bally's and Paris also all have summer specials that are running, as does the Trop. Best bet would be to try the various Websites. If you can afford it Mandalay Bay would be the place, otherwise try the most affordable at the corner where you have Caesar's, Flamingo, Bally's and Paris. Have Fun

Hi, Kelli,
For an anniversary I'd recommend from your list either the Luxor or Treasure Island. The Sahara is too far from everything else IMO and the Excalibur is fairly kid-oriented (but not convincing at that.) If your choices also include other hotels, then some of the above advice is good; if by some chance the list also includes the Golden Nugget downtown, I'd recommend that before the Sahara or Excalibur.

Bluntly put, Sahara is a dump and I wouldn't stay there for free.
Excalibur is a cut rate kid frenzied place which is great if you're a kid, but the opposite of anniversary heaven.
Luxor is decent, a good value.
Treasure Island has the nicest rooms, and overall, is the nicest IMO.

Just want to agree with the previous poster- the choice should be between Treasure Island and the Luxor. I've not stayed in any of these, but I've often been to LV and am a devoted reader of the discussion forum at www.lvol.com - I think it's www.lasvegastalk.com - check lvol if you want more info. TI is very well located and will put you right in the middle of the action...have a great time. It's a fun city.

We live here - and agree with the two previous posts. Treasure Island and Luxor are the two best of the choices you have listed. Neither are as great as say the Venetion, Mandalay or Bellagio - but of the two - Luxor is the more unique as far as the view and rooms - and has a really nice spa (called Oasis) which is well worth a visit. Being next door to Mandalay Bay is nice too as they have many more restaurants, nitelife, etc than Luxor. Treasure island is in good proximity to Venetion and Mirage - both have nice properties / amenities.
If you are looking for deals - this is the time of year to get them. Go to www.travelscape.com - they really dominate the discounted hotel and package rates in Vegas.
Enjoy!

I've stayed at Treasure Island and the Luxor and would recommend them both. Treasure Island is more "family" and the Luxor is more "adult". The only time this was ever a problem was when a kid at the T.I. buffett stuck his finger in the desert to have a taste.
