las vegas Hilton or Tropicana on the strip

could someone please help me cannot decide which to take. Have a resv. at the Las Vegas Hilton off the strip and can get resv. at the Tropicana on the strip. Just husband and myself going this week-end. Has anyone stayed at these hotels and what is your advise on them. We will rent a car so getting around is not a problem. thanks for all help.

I personally would not stay off the strip..the Hilton is really off the strip..Stay at the Trop at least..Is there no other specials being run on any Vegas hotels more center strip located? Check lvol.com ~they have reviews and you can check prices.a lot of hotels offer internet specials...check their websites..

Ok...I happen to LOVE Vegas..and have a little advice for you...Aladdin just opened and has some nice specials. NY NY and MGM also run specials often. But, if it's just the two of you, I would HIGHLY recommend the VENETIAN or Mandalay Bay...both more expensive than the others, but more romantic. But DEFINITELY stay on the STRIP!

Your 2 choices are among the worst and oldest large casino hotels in Vegas. If budgetary concerns are a big factor, check Aladdin and check www.lvrs.com as well as www.180096hotel.com for rates at other hotels. Almost anything will be better (except Circus Circus, Sahara, Stardust and Stratosphere).
Having stayed there not long ago, the LVH is pretty inconvenient. Driving the car and parking is not easy. Long walks from the lots to many of the casinos.

Do a search here for much more detailed information. At this time of year, you can probably have a great choice of hotels than the Hilton or Tropicana. Also check out l

I would Like to offer a conrary opinon. Since you are renting a car, staying on the strip not a necessity. You can drive to each 'section' of the strip, park the car, and sample the adjecent casinos. Just remember, although parking is free at all the casinos, the garages are a far walk from the casinos, so you have to be aware of that. Also, onwekends, trafficon the strip is pretty awful, sodo take advantage of the free monorails betweenmany of the hotels. As for which casino, the Hilton has nice rooms( I stayed there last yr) all have been renovated, and are very spacious.
The TRop main tower has nice, renovated, large rooms, ( I stayed there 2 yrs ago, and my room was nicer than at the Monte Carlo) but the casino is kindy dumpy.

I would agree with the last poster. The Hilton has nice rooms and nice casino. The tropicana casino is extremely dated. Further, if you decide on the Tropicana, make sure your room is in the tower and not in the motel section adjacent (if that is important to you). Although, the tropicana has a good location, if you have access to a car, combined with the monorail system I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Hilton.(Although the monorail, as far as I know, does not go to the hilton).

I Reiterate..Do not even Consider staying Off the Strip. Traffic is bad in Vegas, and the strip is where everything is. You don't need a car if you stay on the strip. PARIS, ALLADIN, NYNY, MGM....all nice Hotel Choices...

Ann...

I have stayed both on the strip and off, stay on the strip. I have stayed at the Tropicana and it was fine (we stayed in the towers), the room wasn't much different from the MGM where I've also stayed. We're not gamblers (we go for the shows) so we did spend allot of time in the room. It's on one of the power corners with the New York, New York on one corner, MGM on another and I can't remember what's on the other corner, there are allot of the newer big hotels down the block in either direction. It was a nice stay, but not special if that is what you are looking for. I'd stay there again.
