Hi virgin,
( Sorry but what is the NFR? Scottish person here) I stayed at the Las Vegas hilton (LVH)for three nights at the end of August)

If flying into Las Vegas go to the Park Place check in ( beside MGM check in ithink its near baggage carousel 1) where you can check in and get your room key-generally quieter than hotel check in)
It is around 10 minutes walk to the strip (Rivera hotel and Stardust) so it is at he Northern end of the strip- arounds 30 minutes to like Treasure Island and Venetian.
Hotel lobby very good-statue of Elvis
Rooms are large and good .marble top by the window with spotlights.
Bathrooms large and ok.
Pool & spa on third floor ( if you have a Hilton Hhonors Silver/gold vip card) think you can access it free-saving $18) Pool is adequate but a bit small.
Buffet is ok in my opinion- Champagne Brunch Sat/Sun $13-not as good as others like Bellagio (best) Paris etc
Star Trek the exhibition- $25 for all day pass- ok if you are a trekkie
One end of the building has a glass elevator with views looking north.
Casino naturally- good.
Timeshare people on the way to the elevators for Hilton Grand Vacation although I was not stopped once ( obviously did not fit their profile)
Various snack bars and gift shops.
The elevators are in two bank - one for say 2-15 and one for 16-34
You can check out using your tv if you paid by credit card (61 & follow the screen instructions)

I visited the Star Trek experience the previous year when I was in LV. The ride itself is very good ( motion simulator ride upon one of the enterprises shuttles) and the "beaming aboard the Enterprise was good. Queuing to enter the exhibition there are snippets of information from the past 200 years or so ie from now until 2200 etc.
The previous year it was $13 and good but i felt $25 was a bit expensive.
Also depends on the queues if its too long you may want to try later

Although the Hilton is a bit off the strip, it is a very nice hotel. And for $59 that is a great deal for a Friday or Saturday. The Hilton is linked via a skywalk to the Las Vegas Convention Center and it takes perhaps a little over 5 minutes to walk it. If this is your first time in Las Vegas you will have plenty to do and see.

the unlv campus is quite a long walk from the hilton. it is probably safe in the daytime for sure, and maybe even at night. but it is a long walk, at least three miles, maybe more.
if you do walk, i would walk straight down the strip and left cut over to the left at around the hard rock cafe/casino. unlv is about three blocks from the hard rock.
there are closer motels/hotels. i think amerisuites is only about two or three blocks away from unlv.
the excalibur, which usually has decent rates, is about a mile away on the strip. but, it is more of a kids hotel/casino. the hilton is much nicer.

It's a good price for a room at the Hilton, which usually seems to flip to rack rate at the drop of a hat whenever anything's happening in town. Unfortunately the hotel IMO is really inconvenient to most parts of the strip, and really too far from UNLV to walk. We personally can't stand the place - all by itself, characterless, rather uninviting casino, daunting walks from rooms to exits, parking out yonder... but as I say it's just MO.
Nobody's commented on your handle for this post. If true, you should ask for a comp room - the last time a virgin was seen in Vegas, Hoover was President.

travelocity.com is adv. a rate at $59.99 at Hard Rock ...stay there it is closer and call direct and ck price and see if they shuttle you there....or Sam`s Tow is a big rodeo hang out ..maybe they have shuttle too....Hard Rock would be a ggo place to stay...$5 cab ride to the strip......the VIRGIN ref. is to the virgin TO VEGAS!!!!!!!not a virging in Vegas per se'

Yeah, if I was a virgin I doubt I'd have enough kahunas to go to Vegas by myself! Look out cowboys!
Unfortunately I already booked the room, otherwise I would swap. Another post convinced me to stay there since it was right next door to the convention center. Dummy me, I didn't think there might be more than one.
But according to the NFR website, there is a Rodeo Express shuttle that leaves for the rodeo from the Las Vegas Convention Center & it's right next door. Or am I wrong about that too?
Okay then, I'll toss this out... here is a list of the Host Hotels for the NFR which have shuttles to/from the rodeo, and still have rooms available for that weekend. Which one is the best for the money, considering location/comps, etc.?

Sahara $59
Sam's Town $69
Lady Luck $45
Four Queens $55
