Las Vegas Desert Tour

Message: Hi folks, I will be in Las Vegas with my 83 yr old father and mother first wk of Nov. We would like a desert tour and wonder which to choose? Valley of Fire or Red Rock Canyon? Has anyone used the "Everything las Vegas tour company? A recommendation would be really helpful. Many thanks from Cape Cod Ma. Jean

I've been to both although don't remember which tour company, the concierge at Sahara made reservations for me. If you can, go to both, Red Rock first. They are different - Red rock is less of a desert, more of a ranch. Valley of Fire is spectacular, although it's longer and your father may get tired. Lake Mead and a lunch in a restaurant by the lake are included in the Valley tour. And a stop at an oasis. If I could do just one tour I'd choose the Valley.

You hardly need a tour company IMO.
The driving is easy, rental rates for cars are cheap and you can make your own itinerary.
You can plan it all from your computer if you want to.
Save the extra $$ for a nice lunch.

We are planning to take the Lake Mead boat and luncheon tour, would the Valley of Fire Tour, with a stop at Lake Mead be repeatitive or is the Lake Mead segment a quickie? Valley sounds so beautiful and I think he and Mom could enjoy it from a coach. Red Rock sounds like something we could squeeze in on another day. Your help is very much appreciated. Many thanks, J

I don't think you need to book tours far in advance, I was there a year ago and booked them one by one the night before. Can you go first to the Valley of Fire and see if you want to go back for a boat tour?

It was a lunch stop with some free time to walk around, 1/2 hour or so.

Thanks Faina, for that suggestion, however, since I will be attending a convention, I took advantage of their tours and have already paid for the Lake Mead trip. Wish I hadn't so I could just do it with this one tour. Also glad to hear it's easy enough to book tours a day in advance, however since the convention is in town it might be harder. Jean
