Can anyone suggest a baby friendly resort in Vegas. I would like to stay somewhere that will welcome my one year old and have some family friendly activities.........please advise.......thanks

You've got to be kidding....try Disneyland in Anaheim or DisneyWorld in Orlando.

While I saw quite a few baby carriages in Las Vegas last month, I noticed that many hotels are now charging a hotel surcharge over and above the room rate for each child. It runs from $25 per child per night and up. So much for baby friendly. It seems they are giving up on their family friendly ideas. There are family things to do in Las Vegas though. It is a big city now. But I have no idea what a 1 year old would want to do besides be close to his mother.

Please check the Vegas thread. A month or so ago there was a big post regarding kids (especially one's in strollers) in Vegas. In my honest opinion, I do not think Vegas is a "baby" friendly environment. If you want the most "Kid" oriented hotel in Vegas try Circus-Circus. But again, plz check the Vegas thread. You'll get lots of opinions on this subject.

Try the Hawthorn Suites which are off the strip one block from MGM grand. You get a bedroom and lounge so the room could be useful. Very relaxed and good quality and rates. Buffet breakfast included. have Fun

Try the Four Seasons or the Embassy Suites. The Embassy Suites is not on the strip but on a side street off of it.

The Four Seasons is running a special this summer. I had a rate of $150 per night for August. This is great for this hotel. They will baby proof your room, have for your use during your stay a stroller, high chair and crib, etc.

The other nice thing is that they do not have a casino and their pool is nice and quiet. It is attached to the Mandalay Bay and you can use their pools there and there is a shark reef aquarium that looks neat.

Be aware that you cannot hang out in the casinos with your baby in a stroller. They will require you to keep moving. You are not allowed to have them in casinos, but some hotels' lobbys are casinos in which you have no choice but to travel through, but they are very militant about not allowing you to stop. We took 2 small kids there with us once, though I didn't want to, and I would NEVER do it again. Other travelers to Vegas do not want to see your children and are not welcoming to them.

Agree completely with Gerry that the only thing a 1 yr. old wants is to be close to his mother. They could care less about doing something, attractions, etc., they are just too young. I know, I have a 1 yr. old right now. He's more interested in trying to walk and discovering whatever is at his eye level, what would he possily do in Vegas?? What are YOU going there for?

We did Vegas with a 2 1/2 year old and found it a god trip for 3 days. True, you can't take children to casinos, but there are MILLION other things to do. We stayed at Excalibur and my little girl loved it. Any bright lights and flashy things are VERY interesting to her and could entertain her forever. We did things like play at the pool, see the aquarium, the great show at Treasure Island. I did some shopping too as my little girl falls asleep almost instantly when I'm pushing her in the stroller. Tru this would have been overkill and too muh stimulation for her if we had stayed a week, but 3 days and she was fine. Mom and Dad needed a little "pick me up vacation" and this getaway was perfect. we did obtain a babysitter through the hotel one evening and night and had a romantic dinner, hit the casinos and had adult fun. It can be done with patience!

Maybe others did not understand me......I was not attempting to re-start the Kids in Vegas debate. I AM going to Vegas and my one year old IS going with me.
Its my husband's 30th birthday and I would like to surprize him. He's never been to Vegas and has wanted to go for a long time.

We are not going for the purpose of a family vacation, otherwise I would go to Mickeyland. We're just making a fun weekend jolt!

We are not gamblers....(so my baby won't be crying in a stroller in a casino at midnight)......

But now I know some of the places we will visit as a family while we explore the city!

Melanie, since you are just going for the weekend, why don't you leave your child home with a trusted relative or sitter? Seems to me you would have more fun with your hubby without the baby. Nothing like a good surprise to get the libido going...

I was just thinking the exact same thing as the above poster. I know its none of my business, but can you leave the little one with family or a trusted sitter since your only going for a few days? I think it'll be worth it so you two can REALLY get the full effect of Vegas. Why pay for the little one when you won't really be able to enjoy Vegas. You will want to catch some shows, check out the lights on the strip at night, visit the different hotels, eat at nice restaurants etc... without being limited due to the baby, and dealing with strollers and people. In my honest opinion and being a yearly visitor to Vegas (without kids) I think you two would have a more WONDERFUL time in Las Vegas without the baby; especially since this will be your first time going. Trust me, you'll be glad in the end, especially since it's a special occasion! If you do decide to go without little one, I recommend Bellagio, Aladdin, Treasure Island, Mirage & Paris hotels.

Luxor, Bellagio, Mirage and Venetian are nice romantic hotels.
Think it over, who wants the hassle of worrying about baby and pushing stroller through crowds. Vegas is also full of smokers on the streets.

Leaving child home.

Not everyone has someone that they can leave their child with when taking a trip. So this may not be an option.

I love people who say, well let's take a vacation but leave the kids home.

The Mandalay Bay is a nice resort for kids they have a great pool area. OF all the hotels we visited in our recent trip I think that one was the best to bring kids along. You just want to stay away from the casinos with the kids especially at night when there is sooo much smoke.

Yeah leave the baby at home. You have to be mindful that no "kids" are allowed on Casino floors. Just something to think about. You two will be able to do more without worrying about the baby.
