Las Vegas at night
We are staying at Circus Circus when we visit Las Vegas later this year and were wondering how safe the area around there is at night? Is this hotel a comfortable walking distance to other big hotels? And should we be saving most of our sightseeing time of the strip for night time?

Circus Circus is located on the strip, which is fairly safe, but keep an eye out for pickpockets. Circus Circus is also conveniently located near the other large hotels. There's plenty to do in Vegas during the day and night. Don't miss the Mirage volcano at night. Have a great trip!

Kylie, I don't mean to scare you, but just recently there was a stabbing in the parking garage of Circus Circus. It was an isolated incident, have never heard of it before there, but you can never be too careful. As with anywhere, always take precautions and stay alert. Circus Circus is actually quite a ways away from the really big casinos. It is on the end of the Strip, and it is near the Sahara, Riviera, Stardust, and Frontier. That is not to say that you could not walk to Treasure Island, Mirage, Bellagio and Caesars (kind of far), but it is a really far to walk to the Luxor, MGM, New York NY, Excalibur, and Mandalay Bay. I have known people to walk the whole strip, but they do not recommend it, and swear they would never do it again. It is best to park at a central location and walk from there, splitting the Strip in half, or possibly thirds. And don't forget downtown, either! I would say that Vegas is much more glamorous at night, and you probably should save the bulk of your sightseeing for when all the lights are going, everything is much more dramatic looking.

I agree with Gina's cooments. Jenny's comments are somewhat misleading. All of the strip is definitely NOT safe. The Northern part of the strip is not an area where one should be walking around at night. I would not stay at any property north of Treasure Island. Circus Cicus is quite a bit north.
Disregard the comments about Circus Circus being conveniently located to the other properties. This is simply not true unles you are considering visiting the older more decrepit strip properties. Distances ar very deceiving in Las Vegas. What looks close on the map is actually a fair distance. The best choice for location on the strip are: Flamingo Hilton, Ballys, Caesars, Mirage, Bellagio, Barbary Coast, etc. I have left out the Imperial Palace and Harrahs because I don't like either one. In any event the above mentioned properties are located on what is referred to as the mid strip which is the best location for walking to everything.
Last but not least, I don't know what your reasons were for selecting the Circus Circus. If you have small chidren with you than they will probably like the circus acts. Otherwise I would stay clear of the Circus Circus. It has a very poor location and is not a very desireable property.

1) Forget about the stabbing comment.
2) Gina and Larry are right on about distance. The desert is very tricky. What looks like a quick 5 minute walk is more like 30. I know it sounds strange but trust me, it's true.
3) I've been to Circus many times. They recently re-did the hotel and casino and it is much nicer than it was. It's not a bad place to stay when you have kids. However, if you don't have kids, don't bother.
4) As indicated above, all the major and newer properties are located at the beginning to middle of the strip. Circus is quite far down.
5) I've been to Vegas 100+ times and I wouldn't even consider walking the entire length of the strip. Just walking from one casino to the next one could take 10+ minutes. Depends on lots of factors.
If you want to be able to walk around alot, stay at one of the casinos with walkways to other properties.
MGM, New York New York, and Excaliber connect. Bellagio, Ceasar's, and Bally's connect, etc.
If you really want to be close to lots of places stay downtown. Everything down there is smaller and not as glamorous but you can walk from one end of Fremont Street to the other within 10 minutes flat. (depending on crowds, of course)
