Las vegas/arizona trip

I am planning a trip from las vegas to the grand canyon, with a stop in sedona, arizona.I am having trouble planning an itenery. If we fly into las vegas, how many nights should we plan in each place. I was thinking 3 nights in LV, then drive to the grand canyon through sedona. Stay a night in the grand canyon, then head back and fly out. Does that sound good, anyone have any other suggestion, or must sees along the route.. Also, is 3 nights in LV too long? I get mixed reviews. Also, how long is the drive from LV to Sedona.

If it were my trip I wouldn't even spend one night in Las Vegas....but that's just me

It's 284 miles to Sedona from Las Vegas. It will take about 5 hours.

Why not go see Sedona and the Grand Canyon and if you decide you need more time in the area you can cut the Las Vegas short when you return.

If you decided to spend more time sight seeing you can always leave the Grand Canyon and go north through Utah for your return trip to Las Vegas. Lake Powell, Bryce National Park & Zion National Park.

Thanks for the tips. How long would it take to travel back by way of Lake Powell. Is that really nice? How many days/night do you think I should allow for teh Grand Canyon?Sedona area? Why the dislike for Vegas?

If it were me I would spend as much time at the Grand Canyons as possible. I would give Sedona a miss. If you became bored with the Grand Canyon (hard to imagine)spend some time at Zion National Park on the way back to L.V. Sedona used to be a beautiful place. Now it is a beautiful place to buy t-shirts at strip malls. Rampant uncontrolled and disrespectful development has pretty much taken away any reason to visit Sedona. (But then, as Yogi Berra said, "that place is so crowded no one goes there anymore."I guess some people like it.)

Hi Missy,

The trip from the Grand Canyon up to Lake Powell, over to Bryce NP and then Zion National Park and back to Las Vegas is 535 miles. If you drop Bryce then it's only 420 miles.

I agree with S. I would skip Sedona and stay at the Grand Canyon 2 - 3 nights, one night in Bryce and 1 - 2 nights in Zion before heading back to Las Vegas.

Why the dislike of Las Vegas. I'm not a city gal. Flashing lights and modern man made buildings just don't do anything for me. It's a personal preference and like I said....that's just me. I love natural scenic wonders and you will find some of natures best in this area.
