Landslide damages a portion of Scenic Highway 12 (SR-12)

Landslide has reduced a portion of Scenic Highway 12 (SR-12) between Bryce and Escalante to one lane. Getting from Zion to Bryce is still fine. Beyond Bryce, expect delays. More here: http://www.sltrib.com/home/5071193-1...nyon-may-leave

They don't expect to have this fixed for something like 6 weeks. The south western part of Utah has been pulverized by rain this winter.

Thanks for the update. I had planned on going from Page to Bryce via Escalante. Would I still be able to access all of Bryce and the best of highway 12 via 89? Any other weather impacts on a road trip to Bryce and Zion? I'm flexible if it would be best to postpone until next year

Darn. Looks like fall is going to be a better time for the Utah trip this year.

Bailey123--the best parts of 12 are between Esclante and Boulder. So you would have to start from Torrey--Highway 24 I believe. You can absolutely see all of Bryce via 89. As for other weather--we can still reliably get snow into the middle of April. And then there is all of the melting snowpack. This fall would probably work out more reliably, but you never know!

Just so everyone who hasn't taken the time to actually read the article understands, the road isn't totally gone, just reduced to one lane with a traffic light. There are delays and the delays will get longer with the peak of tourist traffic.

Bypass that mess by driving north to Widstoe and then east on a very scenic road. It exiys west of Escalante.
Last time I drove that road, a high clearance vehicle was required, but the road itself was ok
I recall the road name to be Tom Best Spring off highway 12 west of Bryce junction.

Stantonhyde. Thanks for the advice. My town gets the same weather patterns and we have had cool unsettled weather for the last week. Before that it was unseasonably warm. I think I'll just keep checking the weather and make a last minute decision. Seems like it would be great photos to have a little snow. Bryce and Zion are more of a detour than a destination for a road trip from home in CO down to Phoenix so fall is not an option; however, Moab is on the list for fall.

It's a big job, but they are working hard.

Hi Peter and Sharon!
