Lake Tahoe To Los Angeles
#21
If the weather cooperates & you're able to include Lake Tahoe, look into other areas as I think South Lake Tahoe is the least beautiful part. I haven't spent much time there recently but I always thought the north & west were the best. I hope others will make suggestions for alternatives to South Tahoe.
If the weather isn't good in the mountains you might just go to Southern California where it's likely to be warmer. Maybe Santa Barbara & Ojai or the desert, the Palm Springs area.

Not only is the north end of Lake Tahoe much nicer, the road to get there is MUCH easier. Interstate 80 to Truckee and then either Hwy 89 or 267 to the north end of the lake. To get to the South end of the lake you'd have to go up Highway 50 which is narrow and has too much traffic for the conditions.
Tahoe is really lovely IF the weather is decent.
Now about Yosemite -- it is world famous for a reason and is gorgeous (again -- the weather would be a little less of a concern getting there). I love visiting in December and do that maybe every 4-ish years. But you absolutely need more than one night there. It will take you several hours to get there from Lake Tahoe (you'd have to travel west either all the way into the central valley to Merced or down hwy 49 to Mariposa then 140 into Yosemite Valley). So staying only one night is totally worthless. You'd have a few late afternoon hours as the sun is going down and then you'd have to leave first thing the next morning to drive to LA.
S o o o : 1) Go to Tahoe IF you can go to the north or west side (anywhere from Tahoe City to Incline Village). And 2) go to Yosemite IF you can stay two nights IN Yosemite Valley. Otherwise skip both. And for either one have a plan B 'just in case'.

My family been to SF, Monterey and the Big Sur area.
For this trip, we want to go to somewhere we have never been before. That is why we wanted to go South Lake Tahoe & Yosemite.
My friends who have been there told us the area is really beautiful and is a must to visit.
Now we will have to think of a plan B for the 3 to 4 days before heading to LA to meet friends.
