Lake Tahoe in December
Ok, I have found 2 hotels and was curious as to any feedback or info.
We are trying to stay in Lake Tahoe nevada side. We are looking for a nice hotel. I like to ski. Dad likes to gamble. Mom wants to go to the spa. There will be a few of us and we are all middle 20's (except mom and dad)
We found the Hyatt resort and casino which I think is north shore
Montbleu resort and casino south shore...
What are the cities and the slopes like around each hotel?

The Mont Bleu is the old Caesars. Walking distance to the gondola to the top of Heavenly Valley.
The Hyatt is not walking distance to anything -- but the lake. But it does have shuttles to Mt Rose, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Northstar.
Heavenly/Squaw/Alpine meadows are all world famous.
Stateline (the city surrounding the casinos at Southshore) is right on hwy 50 and traffic can be a problem on weekends. Four major casino/hotels.
Incline Village is a MUCH smaller town and pretty upscale. Lots of the big money from Reno lives in Incline. The Hyatt is the only hotel/casino rightt there but there are three smaller ones at Crystal Bay about 5 miles west.
If you are more into non-stop action and crowds - southshore is the place. If more into the scenery and such - consider northshore.
You would be closer to the slopes from southshore - but getting to the slopes from the Hyatt isn't a problem. You can use shuttles or drive yourself.

The Montbleu is the old Caesars. It's pretty close to the new gondola at Heavenly. I don't know if you'd want to walk all the way in your skiing gear though. There is probably a shuttle that take the guests to the gondola. You could also wear shoes and carry your gear and then stow your shoes in a locker. You'd also be able to drive to other ski resorts like Sierra and Kirkwood
The Hyatt is very nice. You'd have to drive or be driven to Northstar, Mt Rose, Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Homewood, Alpine Meadows or Donner Ski Ranch which are all on the north.
It's not that you can't also access these resorts from the south it's just a longer drive.

We stay at the Hyatt in Incline every winter for a ski vacation. The shuttles pick you up right at the lobby to take you to the different ski areas, but no one mentioned Diamond Peak. It is a few minutes up the hill from the Hyatt, and really quite nice. We also like to go to Northstar from there.
The Spa at the Hyatt is huge, lots of treatments to choose from, heated pools and jacuzzi's. Gambling is only at the Hyatt in Incline, but it's fun to go to Crystal Bay one day, and down to South LT another night. It's only a half hour drive.

First of all you have to consider possible weather. There are years where there is NOT a lot of snowfall before Christmas...it just depends but be prepared for storms, just in case. The Hyatt is a really nice hotel and has the amenities you are looking for and I think will suit all ages. It's not very far at all to Crystal Bay and there are several casinos there. I haven't been to Montbleu but from what I have read, they are trying to appeal to a "young, modern, hip, upscale" group..that is definitely NOT MOI!!!! LOL The developers have spent a fortune on the remodel so everything should be very nice there. South Shore is always busier, more crowded, more party crowd. Of course, Heavenly Valley is right there. They have added a lot of runs to Heavenly in the last few years and of course they make snow to add to the pack in the lean years. There should be slopes for really every skill level. If the weather is good, you really can get almost anywhere within an hour or so if you want to try Squaw or Northstar. The Hyatt is more..well kinda "old Tahoe" feeling and it's further from the Ski areas. Ski Incline and Diamond Peak are close by but these are much smaller facilities that either Squaw or Heavenly. You don't have as many choices of types of runs and the runs aren't as long as you can get the other places, but they are quieter and I believe are cheaper. So, it's kind of like do you want "tomato" or "tomah-to". Hope you all have a good time.
