Lake Tahoe at Christmas?

Looking for a spot during Christmas vacation to keep two teenagers busy with skiing, while we relax and maybe play the casino's. Is Lake Tahoe the spot, or is there someplace better. Is skiing very good here the later part of December?? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Lake Tahoe! You are talking about the most beautiful spot on earth! In Winter the snow covers everything, but the lake doesn't freeze. I could go on forever about the lake. Sking is great in both North and South Tahoe. The south part has the most casinos and is much more commercial. The north is more residential with only a few smaller casinos. There is more to do in South Tahoe ( the south part of the lake, but everyone drives back and forth anyway. Also Reno is only about 45 minutes away from either area. You'll not regreat going to Lake Tahoe, either winter or summer.

Hi. this lake is a great place, and I have freinds that ski up there, and they say it is good skiing.here is a resort number on the north side. where ever you stay, get reservations in early.! here is the number, you can e-mail them and They will try and answer qouestions. the number is w.w.w.tahoefun.org
You can't go wrong with Lake Tahoe, so much to see and do.

Lake Tahoe's great. Usually good skiing that time of year--depends on the weather--this year was unbelievable! The bad news?? Everyone from the Bay area will be there too and if you leave on a Friday afternoon you might arrive by Saturday! Seriously, big time traffic getting to Tahoe--also sometimes chains are required, but those can be rented on the way up. Book way ahead---it's great and I would never bother going into Reno--tacky by comparison.

I have been in Lake Tahoe several times both summer and winter. I am not a skier but our son is and he says the skiing is great. I am however a bonafide gaming person. If you are serious about casinos then Reno far exceeds Lake Tahoe. Among the gambling crowd, Lake Tahoe is considered to be the worst of the prime gaming areas of Nevada being Las Vegas, Reno, Laughlin, and Lake Tahoe. If you are a casual gambler then Lake Tahoe will be fine. Lake Tahoe is a very pretty place but not a good gambling destination if that is your primary reason to visit.

I have played every Casino in Lake Tahoe and recommend Harvey's as the best in South Lake Tahoe. The casinos at the north are much smaller but not bad places to play. Caesar's in South lake Tahoe has the reputation as being the loosest and I have always done very well there. However, I don't like the stuffy atmosphere. One thing that I find very annoying about South Lake Tahoe are the vast numbers of young rowdies that frequent the casinos at night, especially Ceasar's ( Planet Hollywood maybe ). Many of them are under age

I am just giving you my opinion as a fairly serious Casino player. Lake Tahoe is a great place for scenery, skiing and some casual gambling or gaming as it is more commonly known. Reno is one of our favorite places but it is a place that grows on you after awhile.

I lived in the Lake Tahoe area for about a year and a half. The South Tahoe area is tacky beyond belief although the scenery is spectacular as it is throughout the entire area. The Hyatt would be my first choice - it has a small casino. Another choice would be the Squaw Creek Resort at Squaw Valley - a beautiful facility but no gambling. The amount of snow is very unpredictable. Be prepared for weather and traffic delays getting into and out of the weekend - plan ahead to avoid the big travel days - getting back into Reno to catch a plane is usually possible. Heading west from the area can be totally impossible. Don't miss the town of Truckee, a historic town located near the site where the Donner Party was stranded for the winter in the 1840's. Have a great time!
