Lake Tahoe Activities

My husband and I are coming to SF in early October for a long weekend. After that we were thinking of going up to Lake Tahoe for a few days. What sort of activities, shopping, dining etc. are there? Neither of us skiis but we've heard the area is so beautiful we wanted to see it. Is there anything to do besides ski? Perhaps horseback riding?

Thanks for any info.

I think Lake Tahoe is absolutely lovely, and we used to go there often (we live halfway across the U.S. from there).I'm not sure how much snow would be there in October, but we loved snowmobiling. Driving around the lake is a must-do; take a boat cruise, and we enjoyed gambling at Harvey's in South Lake Tahoe.
Harvey's has a wonderful restaurant whose name escapes me at the moment which is located near the top of the building and has windows all around - the scenery is so lovely. There's a really nice golf course nearby , and I'm quite sure horseback riding is available. I always wonder why I don't live there when I visit Tahoe...do the residents ever get blase' with the grandeur of the mountains? Have a great time - wish I could go , too...

No chance of snow in October--are you kidding? The weather will be cool but not freezing. Activities are hiking, biking, gambling. Try to rent a cabin if you can (there are many places on the net that have listings) so you can get the rustic flavor of the place. I prefer North Shore (Tahoe City/ Kings Beach) but if you like to gamble you will want to be on the South shore. I'm sure there are places that rent horses for horseback riding.

Anyone have suggestions to share for things to do in Tahoe in May?

Any hiking/biking trail suggestions for not-in-great-shape sightseers?

Lake Tahoe has reported snow every month of the year. I have gone there many times. You will PROBABLY not have any snow in October or May but it is always possible. People were still skiing this past May. You can go to the shows at the casinos. Harvey's has an ongoing show that is pretty good. The Lakeside Inn has a good restaurant that sells a great prime rib dinner for $7.95. It is a cut above the usual cheap prime rib dinners and the restaurant is very nice.

Take a boat tour of the lake if it is not too cold.
