Lake Tahoe

Looking for suggestions on restaurants and things to see and do in Tahoe in September. Also, does anyone have any info on the Sunnyside Lodge? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Emerald Bay is a must see: there are 4 ways to view and recommend 3 of them; 1st drive the road (route 89%3Droute 28%3Droute 50) which encircles high above the Bay. If coming from the north side of the bay, heading south, there will be a large parking/viewing access area on the north side of the bay...drive by this,,,,everyone goes there.,,,continue following the road for about 500 to 750 feet around the bend to the south side of the bay....you can still park on the roadside. Explore the bay side, off the road...lots of good boulders and beautiful views of the bay, the outpost island, and the stone home which sits on the bay's west beach.....be sure to take some peanuts, bread, etc with your camera or camcorder... before you know it very curious and very friendly chipmunks will come up to you here ! Be sure to explore the waterfalls to the west off of the road from the middle of the bay road curve. Can also take a paddle wheel boat trip, M.S. Dixie (702-588-3508) from the Nevada side which cruises to the bay...of course if you can rent a boat you can get to the bay and spend the day on the beach there. That was the best. Also on the south side is a national park campground, down closer to the bay....look for the signs. For food there are many....our fave has been a barbecue place up on the northwest side of the lake, believe near Tahoe City, along route 28-89-50, lake side,...outstanding. (cannot recall name, possibly "Hungry Hunter" ,but will investigate and add a post if name found...someone will know !) Other good dining is "Black Angus", Catch of the Day", and "Mon Chateau"
A VERY LITTLE KNOWN FACT: the U.S. Coast Guard Station, just north of the barbecue place, on a road just off lake side of the same road, has 2 furnished, absolutely gorgeous "A" frame cottages, with boat access to the lake...fully equipped kitchens and rents for $15 per night....IF there are no military persons staying....which is hardly ever,,,,milpers. reserve up to a year in advance by reservations....worth a phone call to check for an opening ! If you go to the I.H.O.P. for breakfast, on the south shore, go before 9am. Restuarant at the top of "Ceasar's", southshore is very good. Great Italian place just a half mile from Ceasar's on same side of the road...("Renato's Italiana" ). Lots of great breakfast deals in casino's restuarants. Golf Course is Awesome. Just over the mountain, northeast, towards Carson City, on route 395 are small airports which have glider rides over the lake which are spectacular....dress warm for gliding. On the weekends there are craft booth "cities" along the lake in Carnelian Bay-Tahoe Vista-Kings Beach, along the same route 89-28-50 on the north end of the lake. Take warm night clothing for even in summer, at 8000' above sea level it gets cool. Great piano bar guy at Ceasar's regularly evenings (Bobby _______ ?). Went many times over a 2 year period while living nearby and iIt has been 6 years since we've been there,,,,wonderful place......if more recalled we will post ). E.mail and let us know how you enjoy ! ( [email protected] )

Donna: We have been going to Tahoe since '41. Currently live 1hr away by car. OK - Sept is a perfect time to visit, after Labor Day. The Lake is 22 mi long with great hiways circumnavigating it.
Biggest gaming resorts to be found at the South shore (shows, etc)East side of lake is in Nevada where gambling is allowed. Nice hotels at either end. Water is quite cold so bring your wet-suit.
Scenery is lovely, especially on Calif side. Boating, fishing, watersports, etc. available just about everywhere on lake. Oh yes, Golf courses on either end. Fallen Leaf lake is on West side near southern end. Near-by and very beautiful. Lodging available there too. You can't really go wrong - just go ther and wing it. JWM

Remember that old t.v. show "Bonanza"? The set is in Tahoe. Great place to get a "Hoss burger". Have fun!

Stayed at Sunnyside a few years ago in June--it was very nice, well located for access to restaurants, north-shore casinos not too far. A lot of activity because they rent jet skis, etc.
