It is a long way from NY. HeEad west to Yellowstone Park. Then go north through Glacier National Park into Canada. Head for Calgery and continue west to Banff and Lake LOuise. It is a very pretty area. Haven't been there in years but it was similar to a visit to places like Aspen and Vail in Colorado

My husband and I toured W. Canada almost two years ago. We did Lake Louise, Calgary (the Stampede - tons of fun and in July), Banff, Jasper, Vancouver, Victoria Island and the dome train ride. We loved it. We also went to Glacier National Park and enjoyed it.
Great photo opps!

(Fran, there's also a Lake Louise in Alaska, with much better fishing than the one in Alberta.)
Davis, I may be in a minority, but I find Lake Louise (the one in Canada) a marvelous place to spend a day or two, not a week. It is overrun with tourists, the Chateau Lake Louise hotel on the lakeshore is breathtakingly expensive, and takes pains to screen out the non-residents from the nicest areas; and it's some distance from other key attractions in Banff National Park.
That said, the views are amazing, the colors and flowers gorgeous, and renting a boat on the lake, while cold, is a lot of fun.
There is plenty to do in Banff and Jasper NPs, so a week overall is barely time to scratch the surface. But spending the whole week at Lake Louise wouldn't be my suggestion.
And yes, the Canada board is the right place for this discussion.
