Laguna Beach in early August?

Hello. I am interested in staying in Laguna Beach (Montage) for 3 nights in early August. We are coming from Chicago and all we want to do is relax sit by the pool, swim, etc. How will the weather be that time of the year? Is there a chance it will be cold? Do you think its less risky if we go further south, like to San Diego? THANKS!

The weather should be beautiful in August. If, by chance, there is a "marine layer" in the morning, it should burn off early.

However, it still can get cool at night by the coast. Bring a sweater or jacket for the evenings.

Coastal San Diego will not be much warmer than coastal Orange County. Check www.wunderground.com for monthly averages in both places.

Enjoy!

Unless it is a really atypical year, early August anywhere in So Cal is very warm to hot. Can be unpredictible as to how hot - we have been known to get heat waves where temps are in excess of 90s - but by the coast is usually more comfortable. Should be in the 80s during the day, and may drop to the 60s at night. (Although, if we are having a heat wave, even the evenings can stay warm) You should have perfect beach/pool weather. Sometimes there might be a marine layer, but not normally much in August.

There is usually an off shore breeze that comes in around 5pm or so, and that can sometimes cool things off a bit. (Not cold, though) Most of the natives simply throw on a sweatshirt/light sweater and capris, so it's not really something to bundle up for. And the breeze usually only lasts for a couple of hours - just enough to lower the temps to something comfortable.

San Diego is normally cooler than LA or Orange County. Not sure what you mean by "less risky". That it will be cooler? Or warmer?

Enjoy your trip!

August and September are the best months here in Orange County. Montage is beautiful. Have fun!

I also posted a question about Laguna Beach. Any feedback on Surf and Sand Hotel and The Inn at Laguna?

As a "local" the Surf and Sand and Inn at Laguna are classics and fantastically placed! August and September are our best months and both locations are great for walking the area and checking out beaches, restaurants and shops. The Laguna Art Festival in Laguna Canyon runs to September. Masters of the
Arts is a fascinating theater production. Such fun! Check with your hotel for info ASAP to plan ahead for plenty of time!
And welcome!
