Labor Day Suggestions

We are looking for a short weekend getaway over Labor Day - somewhere within driving distance of Milwaukee. Something that will not break the bank as we just got back from Europe a few months ago. We're not big on camping, but have thought about it. Maybe a nice B&B or cabin near a lake? We've been to Door County so are looking for something different. Chicago's out b/c we're looking for something relaxing in the countryside. Any ideas??? Thanks!!

Have you been to Galena? The area is quite scenic, the town is quaint and has antique and boutique shopping if you want it. Close enough to the Mississippi to take a nice drive along the Great River Road. There are a lot of nice B&B's and at Eagle Ridge Resort you can rent a condo or a house.

How about Green Lake? Heidel House is the "name" place there but there are lots of options.

If you want to go farther, you might consider Minoqua or Eagle River.

Small town and not too far wise, you could look at Marquette, Adams, Columbia or Green counties.

At any rate, get your reservations in now, that is a busy WI weekend as you probably know.

Take some time to thank the LABOR MOVEMENT for getting the day off.

If you are against labor unions, then stay at the office and work that Monday.

Travel forum ...

And be sure to "thank" the labor unions for driving American jobs overseas. How many smoke breaks does an overpaid lazy "worker" need again?

Sorry, couldn't resist. Too easy.

Editors, feel free to delete.

Those jobs are going overseas anyway. Even jobs in non-union Central Amrican are now going to Pacific Rim nations.

So you'll be working, I presume?

Do I sense some animosity here? This thread is not about the meaning of labor day. Compared to a lot of other countries Americans have it good no matter how bad you think you have it. Jobs will be outsourced & moved overseas b/c it's always all about the bottom line. I dont' agree with it - I have been outsourced and you just have to learn that you cannot trust any corporation and always be ready to be on the move to somewhere new.

Did anyone see the new episode of 30 days last night about the computer programmer whose job was outsourced to India? Very interesting.

Also in response to labor unions, I know a lot of workers who are against them because if they were part of one they would not get as much overtime or salary increases. It goes both ways.

Galena is great - we've been there twice. It is quite a drive though.
What about Lake Geneva, or Madison? Our son just graduated from UW. I'm going to miss our weekends visiting him in "Mad City".

My son and I spent a week up in the Eagle River area last year. What a neat town. One day we went over to Mercer to the Turtle-Flambeau area. Flat out beautiful. Its Wisconsin version of Minnesota's boundry waters, smaller though. The cabin we had in Eagle River was on a lake and ran by the sweetest lady.let me know if interested and I will look for the name, address and phone #. On the other matter I have to give my two cents. Ive been a union member all my life. Management will be the first to tell you that Im not lazy and that I work very hard for what I get paid for. If I did smoke and took more than three smoke breaks in a day Im late and I will hear about it. Think of the wages and the hours you would work if it wasnt for the unions .
