LA to Kona or Hilo or Maui? Typical $$?

Hi,

Doing some research on taking a trip to Hawaii this fall (early Sept), and considering both Maui and the BI.

Can anyone give me typical "good" rates for flights from the LA area to Kona, Hilo, and Maui?

I found a deal from San Diego to Maui for $735 (RT for 2 people) - it would be a bit of a hassle to get to SD but the best price I could find out of the LA area was $1082. It looks like there were good deals from trips in mid July - any thoughts on waiting until a month before to buy tickets?

I have a B&B I really want to stay at on the BI but I can't find flights to Kona or Hilo for under $1100 (RT two people). Is this a typical price or can better deals be found?

If we go we have to be on a tight budget for this trip since we're heading to Ireland next year... trying to see how inexpensively I can do this. Might go to Monterey CA instead...but I really want to go to Hawaii

Thanks for the input!

Yikes, are those first-class rates? I'm flying there in late August and it was only $695 from Philly to Kona. You should be able to find MUCH cheaper rates (provided you're flying coach) from LA. Try travel.yahoo.com and search flexible dates -- you'll get an idea of what airlines have the lowest fares from LAX-KOA, and from there you can search the airline's site for your specific dates. Good luck!

Checked travel.yahoo.com (hey...I'm bored) and American has rates as low as $354 before taxes.

Karameli... what dates are you searching on? I see $350/365 but the travel must be complted by Aug 31 - that won't work. We could possibly leave Aug 30/31 but our primary travel needs to be the first week of Sept.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks!!!

I think I'm going to head over to Hawaiian airlines & grab the tickets to Maui: $735 total for 2 RT tickets from San Diego. I've had several people who travel there frequently say that's a pretty good deal.

WOOHOO We're MAUI-bound
