LA/San Diego help for honeymooners

For our honeymoon, my fiance and I are stopping in LA on our way out to Hawaii (3 days in September). On our way back, we are flying to LA and driving down to San Diego for 3 days. Lastly, we are flying from San Diego to Las Vegas for 2 days. We have booked all of the airfare and the Hawaii piece but we are clueless in where to stay in California. We are planning on going to Disney for a day and then doing the touristy stuff around Hollywood. In San Diego,we are planning on going to the zoo and La Jolla. If you would please let us know of good places to stay. We are both 26 so we would like a fun but nice hotel with access to the beach and nightlife. Our budget is around $200/night. If you have any advice on Las Vegas we could use that help too.
Thank you in advance.

Sounds like a wonderful trip!

I live in San Diego but if I was going there for my honeymoon, I'd stay on Coronado at the Hotel Del Coronado (it's right across the water from downtown.) Very historical and classy and right on the beach.

Or I'd stay in La Jolla at the La Valencia Hote; once again, very historical and classy and right on the beach.

For $200/night in Las Vegas you can get a very nice room (or suite) during the week. On the weekend, you're looking more at an average level of accomodations.

Some people think the Rio is very romantic, although it's not really to my tastes. Bellagio is the most luxorious and might have something in your price range. Caesars Palace, the Mirage, and the Hilton are all highly recommended. Stay away from the Excalibur, Circus Circus, and probably even Treasure Island, too. You don't want kids around when you're honeymooning.

In San Diego, the Hyatt Regency has an awesome location and looks like a great place. Coronado is probably more romantic, although it's a little less convenient; it depends on how much going around you're going to do.

In LA, you might look at the Beverly Hills Hotel or the Beverly Hilton. They sometimes have rates in your range.

Hi Patty. My husband and I stayed in LA at the end of our honeymoon from the South Pacific last year. We stayed at the Beverly Plaza Hotel in LA which is about 3 blocks from Beverly Hills. It was a fabulous Hotel for a very good price. The Beverly Center is right around the corner....a great shopping mall and there are a lot of antique shops right across the street. Also, the best food we ate was at Cynthia's which is on the same block. You will be very happy staying here. We rented a car and drove to San Diego to see the Zoo. This is a must when you visit San Diego. We also drove up the coast to Malibu and we visited Venice Beach which is a hoot! We're children of the 60's...so it was a real treat for us! If you're using a travel agent tell them to contact the Beverly Plaza and make sure they tell them that you're on your honeymoon. They upgraded us to a suite and I think we paid $125.00 a night...which was dirt cheap to us after spending $700.00 a night in French Polynesia. Not sure where you're from, but if you're looking for a good travel agent I have one! Congratulations and if you want more info, feel free to E-mail me.

I live in San Diego. My choice would be one of the downtown San Diego hotels. The Hotel Del Coronado is very nice and La Jolla is OK but very touristy. My choice would be the Embassy Suites downtown. That way you can walk to almost everything. The Gaslamp area is a great area with 80+ restaurants and numerous nightclubs. You can walk along the waterfront, Seaport Village, Horton Plaza, etc. Take the ferry over to Coronado Island. The cost is about $2.00 and offers tremedous views of the city. You can walk to the hotel Del Coronado from the ferry landing. Make sure that you take the pdoper ferry which is at the foot of Broadway next to the pier.

If you must have beach than the Hotel Del Coronado would be a good choice with one of the nicest beaches right out the door. However nightlife will be somewhat lacking. There are many choices. I do NOT recommend any area south of downtown San Diego and I would avoid the Mission beach area.
