Hands down La Playa. Naples is such a quiet, lovely town- beautiful stores, beach, great dining.Marco has become overrun with tourists- the traffic is a nightmare. It has lost much of it's charm. I've stayed 3 times at the Marriot, and though it's nice, it's not worth the price. There are always conventioneers, many times hogging the pool at night with drunken business luaus, etc. I much prefer La Playa or the Ritz-Carlton. Downtown Naples and neighboring shopping mall have much better shopping as well.

I recently took a trip to Marco Island and Naples. We stayed at the Hilton and Ritz, respectively. After my experience, I would say definitely go with LaPlaya.
The Marriot on Marco looked rundown and a bit shabby...like it hasn't been renovated since it was built in the 60s or 70s. Marco is more of a family-oriented, quiet destination. There is not much to do other than lay on the beach, rent a parasail or waverunner, or go out to eat.
Naples is much more interesting and has lots of different options. I walked by LaPlaya during my stay at the Ritz. In fact, I initially considered staying at LaPlaya rather than the Riz. LaPlaya looks very nice after renovations and is well situated on the beach. There are lots of things to do nearby if you decide not to sit on the beach or by the pool throughout your stay.

It is about a 20 minute (brisk) walk from the Ritz to LaPlaya on the beach. I only did it on the last day because I wanted to see LaPlaya after hearing so much about it.
From the beach, LaPlaya's beach and pool areas looked pretty nice. It was a different crowd from the Ritz - a bit more family oriented (or so it seemed) and more low key. The beach area was much less crowded - probably because it is a smaller hotel. From the outside, LaPlaya looked great.
