They are heading to Hearst castle - but we don't have a time yet. My Mom has a bad back and stairs don't work well so I have to call back on Monday to see about an accessible tour. I was told they offer them at specific days and times. We were wondering if they should try to schedule that for Tues or if they need to stay overnight in that area and do it on Wed. Preferably Tues although it will depend on when it is offered.

Fighting morning traffic to get up to Hearst Castle for a deadline wouldn't be enjoyable. They might consider driving up to Santa Barbara on their 2nd night instead of spending another night in L.A. This would get some of their drive to Hearst out of the way, not to mention letting them enjoy the morning in gorgeous Santa Barbara.
So my vote would be Comfort Inn Sunset Boulevard on Sunday night with maybe a drive to Beverly Hills for dinner (or a quick visit to the Getty if they can get into L.A. before 3:30pm or so -Getty's open until 6).
Monday morning Starline tour of Hollywood/Bev Hills (8:50 to 11:50a.m...request a 12:30pm late checkout for Comfort Inn?)...drive out Sunset Boulevard through Beverly Hills to Malibu Beach, drive north along the coast and late lunch in Montecito (just south of Santa Barbara-where Oprah has her mansion - the little downtown area is right off the freeway & has plenty of lunch/early dinner options)...then check into a hotel up in Santa Barbara and walk the wharf/ the seashore/State Street downtown.
As long as they leave Sunset Boulevard by 1:30pm they shouldn't have to worry about any traffic. After 2:30pm it will start to pick up quite a bit.
It's a rush out of the L.A. area I suppose, but I wouldn't want to miss Santa Barbara just to get to Hearst Castle on time. Santa Barbara has quite a place in the history of California, they will enjoy reading about it before their trip.
Request a senior rate at MarinaBeachMotel in SB and they should be able to get in for close to $100 which is a good price for SB. MasonBeachInn is fine, too. Hope they have a good time.
P.S. They should ask for a quiet room towards the back if they choose Comfort Sunset, since the Boulevard has traffic all night. It is not in a crazy clubby area though and is easy-in easy-out. I agree that the tours from ManhBeach would spend a lot of time just GETTING too and from Hollywood, they must have to pick you up a full hour before tour time.
