LA driving directions
Greetings!
We will be traveling through LA and could use some help in which freeway(s) to take and/or avoid. Here's the situation:
We will be coming from LaJolla on a Monday morning and need to travel through LA to the Warner Brother's studio. We need to be there for a 10 am tour. What's the best route? Has anyone taken the studio tour? Is it worth it? We aren't really interested in the Universal Studio experience (don't really enjoy amusement park rides, etc.). Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

This is right from the Warner Brothers website (http://wbsf.warnerbros.com/home.html):
FROM I-5 (North or South)
-- I-5 (Golden State Freeway) (North in your case) to 134 WEST
-- EXIT HOLLYWOOD WAY, stay in far left lane as you exit
-- Make an immediate LEFT onto ALAMEDA
-- Another immediate LEFT onto HOLLYWOOD WAY
-- HOLLYWOOD WAY "dead-ends" at OLIVE AVENUE
-- RIGHT onto OLIVE AVENUE
-- Right turn into GATE 3 which is located at 4301 WEST OLIVE (across from the Gate 2 entrance of the Warner Bros. main lot)
-- Security personnel will direct you to VIP Tour parking & check-in
-- Be prepared to show legal photo identification and have vehicle searched
Seems to be straightforward. You WILL hit traffic on I-5 north of, well, La Jolla. I would leave no later than 8 AM if you're coming all the way from La Jolla; in fact, I'd plan on leaving at 7:30 and just relaxing if you get to the studio gates early. Have fun, it's definitely worth it!

The WB tour is well worth it! I would totally skip Universal if you aren't into that and the tour there is really a ride.
We saw Sinbad (Commedian) just standing outside while we were on the tour, they will take you on an acutal TV Set (probably the Gilmore Girls but you are physically standing in the set), they take you to a interesting museum, you'll see the fake town and row of homes that have been used in numerous movies and tv shows, probably will see a stage where they build movie sets. We went last Sept and got to see a filming of Friends only by chance that day! Missed getting to see the ambulance bay for ER since we went to the taping but it was worth it!

Do a Mapquest search. You'll get specific directions and distances ("go 1.2 miles, take such-and-such off ramp, turn left, go 6.5 miles" and so forth). Mapquest will even tell you approximate driving times.
We've had a busy spring going to college graduations and weddings and have used Mapquest for everything -- getting to hotels, restaurants, churches. No problems.
