LA and 7 days. To much to do!!

We will be coming 10/11. I did not finish my earlier attempt to post.

Hope to do many things. My daughter moved to LA a few months ago and she has some ideas.

Getty Center, Venice Beach, Graumans Chinese Theatre, Griffith Park, (My husband loves flowers). The Tar Pits, Universal Studios??? Husband would love the tech side of movies, stunts etc., Farmers Market, day trip to San Diego (Mexico?). We would also like to see the Hearst Mansion although as I mentioned in the previous post it would take two days. I know I have left out some things she has mentioned. My husband is limited in the amount of walking and standing he can do so we have to move slow and rest often.

Any suggetions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Getty Center has wheelchairs and maybe useful as there is a lot of walking. They are at the tram, and also at the museum desk. Parking reservations are no longer needed.
www.getty.edu (check access)

Instead of Universal Studios, you may be interested in the Warner Brothers Studio Tours in Burbank. It's a mile or so from Universal. It may be more to your husband's liking.

For gardens, there is The Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino. 14,000 plants, shrubs and trees. Beautiful place. Check for hours - open Tues-Sunday. I think they are open in the afternoons on weekdays.

Should you decide on Hearst Castle, you can make reservations in advance for a tour for wheelchairs. All other tours have a minimum of 100+ stairs. Again, check out the website to see what would be suitable for your situation. They list the number of stairs for each tour.

On the drive to Hearst Castle, you can make a stop in Santa Barbara along the beach/park. The Courthouse and Art Museum are good also, but you may not have the time.

Or go on to El Capitan Beach State Park (fee) and have a picnic lunch along the water.

South of Morro Bay is Montana De Oro State Park - drive and park at the end of the road. Take a hike, at least, (take it easy) out to the first point on the bluff to see some spectacular view of the waves crashing on the rocks below.

Also, ask at the hotel or Hearst, regarding the seals on the nearby beach.

I would definitely bypass Mexico. San Diego and the region south of LA also have some great attractions. Have a wonderful time!

A few comments related to your husband's mobility problems...

There are wheelchairs available at the Getty Center when you arrive at the top of the hill.

If you visit Hearst Castle, you might ask in advance if there are wheelchairs available. If not, you might consider renting a chair to take with you. You'll be moving around the place in a large group, and there will be very few spots (if any) where he can sit for any length of time.

The Huntington Gardens would be very difficult for him. It is large and spread out, and there are few benches. Other public gardens are Robinson Gardens in Beverly Hills (small, reservation required), Descanso in La Canada (a bit larger but still spread out), and the County Botanical Gardens (huge). There are few flowers, if any, in Griffith Park.

Thanks for your reply. Can you give more info on the region south of LA. I am thinking this would be less distance than going to the Hearst Castle. Thanks for the info about the stairs. I will chek wtih them before we decide to go. Thanks Sadie

Yeah, skip Tijuana, too much walking and not a big payoff.

If you really don't have enough time for everything that you want to do, get an early start and you can do Tar Pits (9 to 11am), Grauman's(11 to 1), Griffith Park/L.A. Zoo (1 to 3:30pm) and Universal or WB Tour all in one day. 4pm to closing is perfect for a visit to Universal. And plenty of seating/rest areas at all of the above.

If you do a search at the top of this page for San Diego or LaJolla you will find a lot of information to pick and choose. All the towns along the coast towards San Diego are very nice.

There are many museums within Balboa Park. Sea World on Mission Bay; Old Town San Diego; Point Loma has the greatest view of the city and harbor; Coronado Island; Harbor Seals at La Jolla...great restaurants.

As for gardens, Sherman Gardens in Newport Beach (2647 E Coast Hwy) has a nice display of flowers - tropical and subtropical. Also, a tea garden on weekends.

www.audiencesunlimited.com has a site which posts television shows that are being filmed. There are two in Culver City, during the week of your vacation.. just another thought.
