There are lots of hotels on the Kohala coast. All are on the upper scale. Hilton, Outrigger, etc. Do a search and I am sure you will find lots of info. The book Big Island Revealed is really good too. There is a website that lists all the b&b's and tells about some parts of the book. www.wizardpub.com We bought it when we moved here 3 years ago and still use it all the time (especially when visitors are in town)

Mahalo rich! Wow, Kim is just so helpful here isn't she? Post after psot about Hawaii, all out of the goodness of her heart. Pay no attention to that "konacoast.net" in her e-mail, that's just her IP! Pure coincidence. And as for all her late night string of Hawaii posts, hey, that's just a convenient time for her, she's not trying to load the board with Hawaii posts for all those East Coast folks to see first thing in the morning! Perish the thought! Strikingly similar MO though, to someone else who lived in Hawaii but just wanted to give "advice" from the goodness of her heart....oh, yeah, MauiHeidi, aka Heidi Scoggins the Hawaii travel agent! Another coincidence.

Now of course I really AM someone who wants to help, with no ulterior motive, I just want to share the beauty of my peaceful island home with 50 million tourists every year, so let ME decide where you should stay! Contact me!

I don't know why I feel the need to respond to someone who won't even use his/her real name, but I do. I am not a travel agent in any way shape or form. I am a middle school TEACHER in Kona. As a teacher, I try to teach our future leaders about being open minded and non judgemental, especially when you don't know a person. I am sorry to read "Kohala" that you have never learned this.

I first came to fodor's while planning a trip to Canada this past summer. I found the people on the Canada forum very helpful and decided to check out the Hawaii forum. I have tried to tell people what I know and give back some of the aloha I recieved on the Canada forum. I recently started checking this forum again because I am going to Kauai for the first time over Thanksgiving break and wanted to see what people had to say. (Yes, I have local friends that have been there, but I like to find out everything I can about a place I plan to visit)

As for the late night posts, in case you didn't know there is a five hour difference (currently) from Hawaii to the east coast. Which means while you are asleep, it is still evening for me and I finally have time on the computer.

Where have I ever given any details about hotels? I say nothing about the rooms because I do not know. I know about the surroundings of some hotels because I've eaten there. Around here when you want a really nice dinner, you go to a hotel because they have the best restaurants.

So, that said, you can e-mail me if you wish to discuss this any longer. My e-mail address is valid through a local provider. I believe the people here on this forum are tired of the paranoia about travel agents and don't need to sort through all this junk.

Kim, now I'm confused - I thought you were an 'Asst. Prof', now you say you're a 'middle school TEACHER' ?

Ruh roh, looks like travel agent Kim caught in yet another lie!

Most people who live in heavily touristed areas COMPLAIN about all the tourists, they don't try to encourage more to come unless they are benefitting from it in some way.

I guess now Kim will be a marketing rep.

There must be 2 Kims because I have never claimed to be an "asst prof" I've always used my real name and e-mail so please show me the post where you say I have done this.

As for complaining about the tourists, people who visit this site looking for help have already made up their minds on coming to Hawaii so I am not encouraging just telling them what I know. Don't you ever ask people, that live in the area you plan to visit, for advice on the best things to do there? If you don't, then you are probably not seeing the best parts of that area.

I'm so glad that I decided to spend my 30 minute lunch break, away from students, writing to people who are so judgemental. My 7th and 8th graders have more class than some of you.

For someone who is claiming some sort of moral superiority about judging others, Kim certainly doesn't hestitate to express her own opinions and pass her own judgements upon anyone here, does she? If it's getting too difficult to promote here any longer Kim, just sign off and spare everyone your hypocritical little lectures. You're getting a little shrill dear.

Kim,

Pay no attention to the split personality/Obsessive-compulsive disordered mentally ill Mr Maui (also known as Q, magnum Pi, Earplugs and various other childish names). He obviously has a problem with self-sufficient, educated, intelligent women - You would be amazed at the mean spirited, sexist remarks he has made to other such women. We must really bug him!! Who knows - perhaps he is unemployed because he can't compete!

And,to Mr. Maui, my chuckling has no "shrill" tones! Just a good belly laugh!

Anyway, (back to Kim) my family is planning a trip to the Big Island in March and I have truly appreciated your insight. Thanks!

Teachers should know how to spell RECEIVED. I before E except after C. Children are entitled to a valid education. No wonder there are so many educational problems today.

Dear Fodor Posters,

Please be advised that the poster who has previously had trouble remembering his name and therefore has gone by:
JJones, Earplugs, Miss Maui, Q, Magnum Pi, etc. etc. Will now use the single alias "Mr. Maui." This should help avoid any further confusion on this matter.

Thank you for your patience.

JJones - A quick review above will reveal that I have never sent a post to JJONES. Aha - You got your aliases mixed up there! Probably best to go with the poster above and pick one you can remember!!

Have A wonderful Friday!!

Exactly MMS you silly sausage !

When you ( or some other people if you prefer ) address 'Miss/Mr Maui',
'Earplugs', 'Q', 'Magnum PI' or whoever they THINK they're addressing ME ( not that I really care anyway ) but they're not ! I don't think I've even seen any postings from 'Earplugs' or 'Q' anyway....

Did you get sunburned from sailing today? My back did. See you in school on Monday.
