Kissimmee Hotels

Could I please get some insight on hotels in the Kissimmee area? We are looking for a hotel close to Disney World, and preferably not on International Drive. I understand that area is very congested.

Also, will we require a rental car for Disney? We have never been.

Thanks much.

If you have never been to Disney / Orlando / Kiss area you need some basic info that is available on Deb Wills unofficial guide site, www.wdwig.com, this is NOT a commercial site, the folks who contribute do it because they love WDW and want others to have the most fun experience. You can phone the Kiss/St. cloud visitors center for free vacation planning info at 1-800-327-9159. Also on Deb's site are pros/cons of staying on or off WDW property. Public transportation in the Orlando area is somewhat limited, if you stay on WDW property you do not need a car because of the free Disney transportation system that will take you anywhere on property you want to go. Also check out www.orlandosentinel.com, the local newspapers website for additional info. Once you have done some research, post again (or email me - take out the nospam) with some more specific questions. Knowing the size of your group or kids ages is helpful in making recommendations of what to be sure to see, where to stay. Also search this forum under Florida posts for older posts that have helpful info.

Kissimmee and Lake Buuna Vista have excellent resorts from Holiday Inns to Comfort Inns, to Doubletrees, to suites like Lake Buena Vista Suites, Embassy Suites. There are many. The big part ifs finding deals. Some run deals through agencies for preferred rates for $44 per night. Check around for deals and see what is available. Make sure they provide FREE transit to all parks. I try and keep my site updated with off site specials, but, somtimes it is hard because of how many. The best thing to do is check around for different pricing.

I would recommend Tropical Palms Resort...true it is on International Drive, but is very close to the Interstate youtake to go to Walt Disney World...www.tropicalpalms.com...they have clean, neat cabins/cottages and are close to Old Town, supermarkets and restaurants and very easy to get to WDW...inexpensive,too!..For rentals cars, I would check with WDW and see which agency gets preferred treatment..that way you can park very close to the parks!..have a great time!

Avoid the Wynfield Inn like the plague...dirty, nasty, and in a state of disrepair...Priceline really screwed up with this one, by no means is it a 2 star hotel!
