Kids and Luau's
We will be passing through Honolulu for only two days with two kids (6 and 3). We would like to take them to a Luau but think the Cultural Center is a little too far and big for us. Any others you can think of? What else do you think would be fun and easy.
Does anyone know of hotels that have shuttle busse at the airport? I have seen websites for the Honolulu Airport Hotel and the Best Western Plaza, but would sure appreciate anyones opinion.

All the hotels have luau's. It's all sort of amaturish but fun once in your life. Your 6 and 3 year olds will enjoy the entertainment. Buy and large the more expensive ones have slightly better food -- always buffet style and always at best mediocre.
Try to stay on the beach in Waikiki. Don't stay anywhere near the airport. It's an industrial area.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village is great for kids. It has a very big, very nice beach and lots of things for children to do. It's a reasonably priced hotel.
A cab is much more convenient than a bus. With the four of you, it probably won't be anymore expensive. There is no reason to rent a car. The distances are close. Parking at your hotel is not free.

I highly recommend NOT staying at the Plaza or the Airport Hotel - both are right next to the highway. Even for only two days I'd suggest staying in/near Waikiki so that you can enjoy the beach. Several (if not all) of the hotels in Waikiki will offer luau's. A cab is certainly your best bet for getting from the hotel to the airport.
Other possible fun activities would include a dolphin/whale watching cruise. Some of the cruises during the day are geared towards families and have water slides, toys, etc. on the boat. The zoo is quite nice as is the Aquarium. Diamond head might be a bit of a hike for a 3 year-old - but even taking in part of it can be interesting.
Enjoy your trip.
