Keys Beach Snorkel?

OK, I've done the Pennecamp Park boat trip to snorkel, but I'm wondering, is there anywhere in the Keys where you can snorkel a reef directly from shore - Hawaii style?

No. What's left of the reefs are out quite a ways. You might want to try a day trip to the Dry Tortugas for snorkeling either by sea plane or boat.

Do you feel comfortable handling your own boat? If so, rent one and head out to the reef on your own. You can do this from any key. Incidentally, Pennekamp has a great section of reef, although it can get quite crowded out there.

I would not recommend renting a boat unless you are a seasoned boater who has navigated the Keys waters before. If you can't read the water and currents you can quickly get in trouble. Many a boater has been stranded in the shallows. Shame on you JT for even suggesting it...

I agree with the Capt. You need to be a VERY seasoned boater to navigate the waters in the Keys.
