Key West weather

We are planning to be in Key West from Dec. 28th-Jan. 2nd. We have been there in Sept. and Nov. and both times it was very warm. Should I pack shorts and sandals or will it be cooler this time of year? Do I need long sleeve shirts and jeans? Will I need a jacket/sweater at night. We love Key West and we are excited to return. It's like going to the Caribbean without leaving the US.

Hi Bonnie - we were in Key West last February and the weather was in the 80's during the day and 60's in the evening.

I have learned from experience to alway bring a couple pars of pants for the evenings and shorts for day time. I would have to say that if I were going in December I would start my day off with a pair of shorts with sneakers,Tank top, and a pullover sweater (lt. weight). As the day progresses, I probably would take off the sweater tie it at my waist and have my tank top on so I can get my sun while walking around. Evening crop pants should do the trick. I think that one lightweight jacket should be fine. I am having the same problem because we will be in Ft. Lauderdale for Christmas and will be visiting family there. I talked to my sister in law today and she said it was in the high eighty's but in the month of December the weather is fickle. I know just from living here in upstate NY, the weather was 69 at midnight the other night and we have not has any snow this year. Go figure.

Weather in Key West can be all over the place during December and January. For historical perspective, you can check weatherunderground.com. We were there New Year's a few years ago and it was cold and rainy. I'd be sure and take a warm sweatshirt or sweater for night and probably some jeans in case it's cool during the day.

Just got back from Key West Last night.
Weather, over thge weekend, was in the 80's ( even up to high 80's)....some locals were complaining that it was too hot.

We were surprised to see how quiet it was there. Many fewer visitors than the smae time last year.

Bonnie: I live in the West Palm Beach area. It is in the 80's during the day here right now and 70's at night. Key West has weather similar to West Palm only warmer. Unless we have some weird cold snap, you can count on only needing only shorts, light tops, sandals, and maybe a dress or light weight pants for evening. You could pack one light sweater just in case, but you will probably not use it. You can get a 7 day weather forecast from gopbi.com (that's the web page for the local newspaper here). You can search by zipcode for the weather. A zipcode for Key West is 33040, or you can search a West Palm zipcode 33401. Good luck, and have fun.

I agree with Dick. We were in Key West Dec 9-13 and it was 80's in the day and 70's at night - locals said this was unusually warm. I brought long sleeves but never wore them (except for a sweater one evening in an air conditioned restaurant). By now it may be cooler but definitely shorts by day, maybe light pants and a sweater for evening. WE LOVE KEY WEST TOO!

It is 9:30pm and it is 68 degrees and a little breezy. We had a cold snap and went from waking up with mid 70's to waking up with low to high 60's. Bring a sweater and pants for the evening. The days are still very nice in the 70's but I think we are done with the mid to upper 80s weather.
