Key West suggestions needed for week before Xmas
Will be visiting eldery (82) mother in south Florida the week before Xmas. We have never been to Key West, thinking of taking a driving trip there (4-5 hours?) and would like to find a comfortable hotel/B&B that is somewhat quiet, no steep stairs to climb, yet close enough to activities in town. Mother is in good shape for her age, but stair climbing is hard. We would like to stick under $200/night, thinking 2-3 nights between 12-16 and 12-24. Any suggestions on accommodations, restaurants, sightseeing and shopping would be helpful. Thanks!

I'm afraid you're going to be limited by your price restrictions. That's a busy time in Key West - a place that's fairly expensive even in the off season. You might start here at the Key West Innkeepers Association. keywestinns.com
Be sure and look for someplace in Old Town.
Where will you be driving from? Key West is about 4 hours from Miami.

Most properties have a 3 night minimum at the holidays. with that in mind, try www.historickeywestinns.com
We stayed at the Chelsea House in Old town and liked it very much... they also have other properties that may fit your needs.... call them directly about the stairs... I believe they do have first floor rooms... and Chelsea house is located mid-old town, a ten minute walk from either end of the Island... good luck...

Did you do a forum search? If you had, you'd have found my recent Key West trip report and food thoughts:

LBloom, annael just stayed here and enjoyed it -

They have several different types of accomodations so you may want to call and see what they have without stairs.
The more typical hotels are located probably a bit too far for your elderly mother to walk, but if you have a handicap sticker for your car you could drive in to town from the hotels.

You might check availability and rates at Key West Harbor Inn. I've never stayed there, but it's a favorite of lots of frequent visitors.
If you have difficulty finding something you want, I'd encourage you to check the forum page on tripadvisor.com.
They currently have 9 destination experts, some of whom live in Key West.
