Key West- Getting married here, any advice?

July 2002, We are planning a small wedding only 10-12 people. We would like a beach wedding with a small post-wedding celebration. We are considering the 'Grand Key Resort'. Has anyone stayed here? Possibly going to "Mangoes" restaurant as well. If anyone has ideas of where to get married or not to, as well as places to celebrate with our family please speak up.

this may not matter to you but.... i had a sunset beach wedding in july in the keys (banana bay resort-marathon) and i almost had a heat stroke......not a good place (or time) to be wearing a suit and tie.

I would advise strongly against the Grand Key Resort, which is in the worst possible location. Not only is it far from the Gulf and all restaurants and tourist activites, but it's also not within close walking distance of water at all, certainly not a beach. Although it's new, and I'm sure the rooms are nice, the only thing close to it is the airport. I think you'd be happier staying someplace in Old Town with perhaps a wedding on Fort Zachary Taylor beach, which is the nicest beach in Key West. Another possibility would be to marry on a sunset cruise. I know Floridays (it docks at the Hyatt) does wedding cruises.

there is a website called keywestparadise.com ---when you reach it click onto weddings link...has numerous wedding suggestions....even E.Hemmingway house and Gardens..or Chapel by the Sea and some schooner weddings..stay in Old Town...New Town does not cut it...in case you`ve never been to Key West there is quite a difference... there is also Sunset Key,that you get to by boat..nd a resort there..I think Hilton or Hyatt owns it.it is expensive to stay there but may be able to have a wedding there..Good Luck and Congrats.......also check the Chamber of Commerce....

I also would advise against a beach wedding in July. It gets very hot down here even with a good breeze. I have heard of at least a few people faint at beach weddings. Auduban House and Gardens is a wonderful place to consider. If you still have your heart set on a beach wedding, Fort Zac is our nicest beach and on the sunset side (Grand Key is not). Look at asunshinewedding.com for ideas. Mangoes is a good choice. They also do off site catering and can work with any budget.
