Key Largo, FL

Husband and I will be going to Key Largo very end of May, for 3 nights.. We like to snorkel, kayak and walk on beaches. Is John Pennekamp State Park the best place for this? Any suggestions of quaint places to stay that are clean and comfortable beds? Is there any other places near by that should be a "must" to visit?

We enjoyed seeing this classic boat but it was not available until 2012 to take tourists on rides so if we were to go back that is something we would look into.
We were intending to snorkel at John Pennekamp but the seas were too rough the day we were there to go out in a boat and off shore was not that good. We felt that the scenery at Key Largo was not as good as you get going farther down. We really liked the drive to Key West, some beautiful scenery. We loved Bahia Honda State Park which is about an hour from Key Largo: http://bahiahondapark.com/

We did some excellent snorkeling at John Pennecamp State Park--I definitely recommend it. The snorkeling at Bahia Honda State Park was also good (but the drive is closer to 2 hours.)

Be sure to book your snorkeling tours in advance. We were there in early June and saw walk-ups turned away for lack of space.

Garl is amazing. If you are on facebook, check out his page there for more of a look at what he shows you. He is a wealth of knowledge and knows the area like the back of his hand since he kayaks every day. We took the 11 mile trip in the Everglades National Park. Awesome!! Quite a special memory.
Check his tripadvisor.com page also for reviews.
