Kentucky Derby Lodging?
I am searching for reasonable lodging for the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, KY on for Friday May 3rd, and Saturday May 5 (2 nights) I am looking for two rooms $150 or less each per night. Can anyone recommend a place? I have not had any luck in finding such in a location and in a condition I would want to stay. i.e I have only found dirty, run down hotels or decent hotels 30 miles away.Any help? Any place definitely not to stay? Anything?

It is really difficult to find a room. Some people choose to drive 30 miles away.Most hotels with not even decent rooms jack the rates up during Derby week, as well as restaurants.Try the following: Holiday Inn Lakeside, Clarksville In,Microtel off Blankenbaker, Breckinridge Inn, Holiday Inn New Albany In.I have had luck finding people rooms at those places.Sometimes you can find a room in a private residence or a B&B through the online Louisville Courier-Journal's classifieds section. Look under the column "Derby Information". Sometimes, rooms are available across the river in Indiana. Jeffersonville, Clarksville and New Albany are a few minutes away. Good luck!

I just checked hotelreservations.com and they had a few rooms. The cheapest was the Microtel I mentioned for 169.00
You cannot believe what people pay to stay here. I would say that this would be a good choice for you. There are several restaurants out by there- it's about a 20 min drive to Churchill Downs, I would say. Hurry!

My husband and I have traveled to the Derby for several years and have stayed in Elizabethtown (sp??) and Bardstown and some joints in Southern Indiana. Over the last 4 years EVERYONE, even the horrible places have gone to expensive 2 or 3 night minimums. For the last 3 years we have stayed at Sleep Inn (six flags) on Preston Hwy 502-368-9597. They allow 2 nights only but the cost is $500. They give a little gift packet with Derby glasses, program, pens and also shuttle you to and from the race which is worth something. It is very clean, they are nice folks and they feed you in the morning. Good luck! It is getting tougher and tougher to enjoy the Derby weekend unless you're loaded, too bad for us poor folk.

We sisters and I sent our parents there for their anniversary two years ago (Dad's a big horserace fan) and we booked up the Fairfield Courtyard (I think) it's a Marriot chain. Nice, clean accomodations (nothing fancy), but near everything and very reasonable. Don't recall exact amount but we did have a budget and I think it was about $150/night. It's right in town and if still available, perfect. However, we did book in January for May, so you may be too late!
