Kennebunkport, Bar Harbor, Arcadia National Park
My husband and I (no kids, 40 years old) will be traveling by car from central New Jersey to Kennebunkport, Maine and Bar Harbor Maine. We will be in Kennebunkport for 3 days and Bar Harbor for 3 days (our main attraction to Bat Harbor is Arcadia National Park. We have lodging already, but any other opinions or suggestions on where to go and what to see would be great. Thanks.

Please note that it's Acadia, not Arcadia (important for web searches).
While you're there, be sure to have a meal at Jordan Pond House (see www.jordanpond.com).

Marginal way is a very nice walk along the cliffs in Ogunquit, about 20 minutes south of Kenebunkport. Kennebunkport is a great area, especially this early when it's not too crowded. This time of year is still not beach weather in Maine, and you can expect some cool, foggy days. A bicycle ride along the ocean road, past the Bush estate in Kennebunkport is a great way to spend a nice afternoon. Goose Rocks beach, just north of the town, is one of the nicer beaches. If you get tired of seafood, one of the best Thai restaurants in New England is in Kennebunkport, in a very ordinary looking small shopping center just south of the town center. The ride from Kennebunkport to Bar Harbor is a long one, you may want to stop in Portland, which is a very interesting city.

Whale watching is one option. We went out of Bar Harbor + boothbay on 2 different trips. A visit to Monhegan Island is excellent. Boats leave both Boothbay and Port clyde for the trip. The island is picturesque with art galleries, restaurants ,trails, wildlife(seals & whales)and you'll never forget it. In Bar Harbor , be sure to drive The Loop and stop at each vantage point. My favorites are Cadilac Mountain, Thunder Hole (especially before a storm),Sand Beach(for the view-not the icy cold water),Jordan Pond -for the lunch and the shops, and the view of bubble rock across the lake(i can't remember if it was echo or eagle lake).
Stop on your way onto Mount Desert Island at the Trenton Lobster Pound. Enjoy reasonably priced lobsters and clams. Delicious!!!Our last visit, we took a ride in a single engine plane over the island for 45 minutes.. It was unreal. It gives you a whole new perspective! Camden, Maine is another favorite stop. The many shops, the view of the harbor, and a taste of Cappy's chowder for lunch is memorable. We keep returning to Maine and love it Have fun. From one jersey to another.
