Aloha Jen,
Last January we stayed at Don and Cathererine's Bed and Breakfast on Front Street in Lahania on Maui. If we had been any closer to the ocean we would hsve been IN the ocean. It was a nice home with gracious hosts and great breakfasts including fresh island fruit and homemade pastries. We found them on the web, but I don't remember wich sight. Make sure to ask for the room with it's own lani that faces the ocean. Have a great trip.

The hotel we stayed at in Maui had oceanside villas that just looked incredible. This is at the Kea Lani in Walia. I don't know the price range you had in mind, but I know this was mucho dinero.

I stayed at Bed Breakfast and Beach in Hanalei, Kauai. You can easily walk to the beach...it's RIGHT there.
I liked it, and would go back.

Jen, I think Lahaina is a great place, but if you're a real beach lover, you might be a little disappointed with the beach there as compared to some other areas you could stay in. When are you planning your trip? Hanalei, as mentioned by LW, is a gorgeous beach area, if you'll be there May - October. In the other months, I'd probably want to stay on the South Shore of Kauai, because of stormy seas on the North Shore in the winter.

"Frommers' Hawaii on $60 Day" has a ton of descriptions of cottages, B&B's, etc. that would be nice, and their descriptions are usually right on! Also, some websites with nice pictures & descriptions are "alternative-Hawaii.com", "maui.net", and "planethawaii.com". Please e-mail me if you have any questions I could help you with.

Aloha, Ruth

Jen, That website should have read "planet-hawaii.com". Sorry!
