kauai : poipu or princeville
hi all,
i am planning our honeymoon for july,
and intend 7 days in Maui and 4 days on Kauai.
What do you guys recommend in kauai between
Poipu or Princeville (Hanalei area) ?
It looks like it is far to drive from the north to the south and vice-versa.
we would like to enjoy the beautiful scenery of kauai, its beaches, and do activities
on kauai.
what to choose?
Thanks in advance

Kauai is a small island and it is not really that far from the south shore to the north. The traffic through Kapa'a can be a nightmare. It takes roughly an hour. We have only stayed in the Poipu area, but have visited the north shore on day trips, which works for us.

Hi boy75
My fiance and I are also going to Hawaii for our honeymoon, 8 days Maui and 7 days Kauai. We've decided to spend 4 days on the north shore and 3 days on the south. If I only had 4 days I think I would pick to stay on the north and drive down to the south. It depends what you like though, I've heard the south is more "happening". Everyone will have their own opinions on this though.
Good luck and have fun!

Just back from 1 week in Kauai, stayed on the south shore Poipu area and glad I did this time of year! Trip to North shore took approx. 45 minutes, Longer there as topped to see sights. Both are beautiful, in summer the North shore is calmer then when we saw it. See my trip report for details.

If you stay on the south and want to visit the north shore here are the things that I would suggest seeing including the ones you mentioned.
Ke'e Beach: snorkeling and swimming, hike a portion of the Kalalau trail.
Tunnels Beach: Snorkeling and walking the gorgeous beach.
Walking along Hanalei Bay.
Lunch at the Princeville resort
The Kilauea Lighthouse and the surrounding bird santuary are beautiful.
You will not want to leave Kauai.
