Funny you should ask about the cottages, a budding young journalist wrote about them 20 years ago.

Great article, Melissa. Congratulations!
Yes, we loved staying there and "discovered" them via the Samantha Brown Hawaii segments (that seemed to run forever a few years back). When we realized we had extra days between our Hilton stay and a free four days at the 4S, we caught a plane to Kauai just to stay there. We stayed at a variety of lodging types (condo on Oahu, those 2 hotels on the BI along with a B&B in Volcano) and loved adding the cottages to this mix. If we add Kauai to the next trip, I'm leaning to going back. Suggestions of other lodging would be good in case there's something wonderful that we'd be missing. Thanks for posting a link to your article.

Whatever happened to Italy and Greece?
Man! If you are doing all three I wanna be you when I grow up!
Mels...1988! Weren't you still in HiSchool? Did you draw the short straw and get stuck with doing a Kauai story?
That was a year before our FIRST trip to that #ellhole! (he types as he's putting on his walking shoes).

starrs, even tho the K9's are a very klever krew, you might get more and better responses if you start your own thread asking for Kauai Lodging Help in the title. FYI, most of the K9's actually rent houses or stay in the posh resorts 'cept for me and the big guy.
It's always a ton of fun to hang with Melissa on Oahu. She is just full of the aloha spirit.

Hi Kal,
Italy and Greece are still on the list. So's a new roof.
But, the Oahu guidebook has sparked talk of Hawaii so the wheels are turning. Like many of us I find planning a trip to be almost as much fun as the trip - and the Italy trip is planned to the last detail and Greece was planned a while ago. That leaves room for a new trip on the planning list.
Thanks iceeu2. We liked the grounds and feel of the cottages so much I'd return in a minute but wondered about other posters' favorites. Oahu was a quick 2 days last time so I want to go back and spend more time there. I like posh hotels when someone else is paying for them and the ones on the BI were "free" (points and an award trip)

Trolling for attention I see. The Legend of K9's really is too funny. Did they ever really exhist? At least every other time she mentions 'the K9's' she gets it all wrong. Alas, the all knowing wouldn't get thru the first round of name that K9. The thing about getting attention - even bad attention is still attention. Kinda sad, huh?

This K9 wanna be ( I ain't proud - I admit it ) is enjoying the reunion of the originals.
iceeu2: I was sure I'd sent that tiara back to either you or Bill.
Now, I'm not sure - may have loaned it out to my friend, you may have seen her on Oprah today - you know, the messy house episode. lol!
We may have to commission another. Don't you have a wonderful jeweler on Kauai?

Love her, and don't want to be a rat, but, I still think OSB is hiding the tiara behind that beautiful red mask, just laughing away the day on her 'profile'
Good thaaaang we didn't lend her the real tiara.....
