Kauai condo help ??

I need a 2BR condo at Poipu and another one near Princeville. The nicer the condo, the better, for the group I'm going with. Any help would be appriciated.

I have done tons of research on condo options in Kauai in preparation for our trip in August. It seems that Whaler's Cove, Poipu Kapili and Kiahuna Plantation are the best choices in the south. In Princeville, Pu'u Poa and Pali Ke Kua appear to be the best. Hanalei Bay Resort also seems to have some nice units.
Get the Ultimate Guide to Kauai published by Wizard Publications. Check their website at www.wizardpub.com for aerial photos of condos and hotels and on-line reviews.

Iza has picked the best condos in Poipu although I would probably add Bldg 5 at Poipu Sands to your list. (Several units available there through Vacationspot.com) There are some gorgeous beachfront units available at Kiahuna through a smaller owner's group (do a websearch for Kiahuna.) Be aware that Kiahuna's pool is not on the property. It is across a major road at the tennis club. There is also major construction going on next door at the former Waiohai property (new Marriott timeshares) and lots of noise and activity. However, the beach in front of the Kiahuna is the best beach in Poipu. The units handled by Aston and Castle(?) really vary in location and view. Be very specific about what you want if you book through either of these companies.
Poipu Kapili is another beautiful, and smaller, development however it does sit across a small road from the water and is a short walk to the beach in front of the Sheraton and Kiahuna. The units, especially the two bedrooms, are very nice and the management is great.
Whaler's Cove is located on a rocky point and has magnificent views. It is very nicely maintained and has a lovely, oceanfront HEATED pool. (Believe it or not, a heated pool is great, especially on overcast or windy days.) We had a unit in bldg 2. Very nice but our sunset views were blocked by bldg 1. Definitely go for bldg 1 if you stay here. The downside to Whaler's Cove is that it is not beachfront and really requires that you drive to the beach. There is a little beach, Baby Beach, a short walk away, but it is not good for swimming as it is protected by a reef and is very shallow- hence perfect for babies! (There are some wonderful rental houses along this stretch on the coast. Most are available through Garden Island Rentals. This might be another option for your group. Some have pools.)
Poipu Sands is part of larger Poipu Kai complex but is set apart and is definitely more private. They also have a heated pool and have a nice location right next to the Hyatt.
Also worth a mention is the Embassy Pt. It too is near the Hyatt. I personally dislike that atmosphere here: lot of timesharers and announcement made over the loudspeaker but some people love it. From the coast it looks like a prison, totally out of place architecturally.
Hope this is of some help to you.

In Sept we spent a week at Whalers Cove second floor Building 1. It was beautiful inside and out. Unobstructed views of the ocean and sunsets. We arranged our stay through Suite Paradise and felt we got a good deal. I had initially made reservations at Poipu Kapili but when I checked the location on www.wizardpub.com I found that there is a road between the property and the ocean. Once you cross the street there is a low wall and still no beach on the other side. The property was nicely landscaped though.

I would recommend Whalers Cove to anyone who is looking for a peaceful and private stay. Pool and spa are located so close to the ocean that it's like you're there!

Hi,

I have been researching places to stay for our July trip. If you are golfers, check-out HawaiiGolfDeals.com.

Sorry, I deleted all the websites for condos. I'm looking at the Kauai Coast Resort which is in Kapaa.. east side, middle of the island.

Have you checked out eBay for possible lodging?

Good Luck!

Also worth trying vrbo.com; I've seen good listings for other locations there and on vacation spot.

It might also be worth checking out hawaii's best bed and breakfasts (i think it's hawaiisbestbnb.com); although they specialize in bed and breakfasts, they helped me find a great cottage/house rental on the big island.

Hi We spent a week at Poipu Shores and it was wonderful. I found the unit on the internet through a private owner. We were ground level, ocean front, great pool. Would go back again.
