Kauai Coconut Beach Resort
Has anyone ever stayed at this resort? I am looking to book a last-minute winter trip to Hawaii (our first-ever) for February and have stumbled upon this resort. I am somewhat suspicious because the rate seems low--just $99 a night. We're looking for a comfortable, clean place--not an Econolodge and not the Four Seasons. We'd like a decent beach, some nice restaurant options, etc. Thanks for any help that you can offer.

I didn't stay there, but I did see it, and my husband and I did some snorkeling nearby. It is located sort of in the middle of the island, and it does have a beach. However, it is not secluded at all, so if you are looking for that "remote" feeling, this isn't it. There are a lot of shops and restaurants around - some good ones though! I stayed in Hanalei in the north - by far the most beautiful and lush part of Kauai. The south is dryer and more beachy. I didn't see inside the Coconut Beach, but it looks decent from the outside. Definitely not luxury, though. So it might be right for you. Hopefully someone else can give more details on the inside. Plan to rent a car - Kauai begs to be explored!

RANDY: I STAYED AT THE KAUAI COCONUT BEACH A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. IT IS A NICE LITTLE HOTEL. THE ROOMS WERE VERY GOOD, ALL HAD BALCONIES AND THE ROOMS HAVE COFFEEMAKERS. THE HOTEL HAS A SMALL POOL AND A JACUZZI. IT IS ON THE BEACH, BUT IT IS NOT A GOOD SWIMMING BEACH, AS IT HAS RIPTIDES. THE HOTEL HAS A LUAU ALMOST EVERY NIGHT. THE HOTEL IS LOCATED ON THE NORTH END OF THE COCONUT PLANTATION, AND YOU ARE WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF RESTAURANTS AND SHOPS. OTHER THAN NOT BEING ON A GOOD SWIMMING BEACH, I WOULD RECOMMEND IT...YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED...HOPE THIS HELPS...TONI

I stayed at this resort last October and had mixed feelings about. The hotel was nice overall and not overly large, which was a huge plus, but the facilities and the beach were not captivating enough for us. The pool was fairly small and there was one jacuzzi, but most problematic was the beach was completely useless for swimming. Not only were there rips, but it was rocky/full of coral and there was no real sand to sunbathe on. You had to put your towel on the grass and the only beach at low tide was really rock that would cut you. Because of this, we wound up spending all our time on beaches in the South or North and probably used the hotel facilities once in the week we were there. The hotel itself was nice, clean and had good service and definitely a value place. On the plus side, because we did not feel obligated stay at the resort, we got to see a lot more of Kauai!

Randy,
Have you checked out the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort just down the road from Coconut Beach Resort? The beach there - Lydgate Beach Park - is FAR SUPERIOR to the one at Coconut Beach. I like a little more luxury than either one of these two places offer, but if you want clean and comfy and friendly, you'll like the Holiday Inn. A huge section of the ocean is enclosed by a boulder wall so you can snorkel and swim, protected from the rowdy ocean that time of year! Good luck, whatever you decide! You can hardly go wrong in Hawaii - Be sure to eat at the Cafe Coco in that same area!

We were in Kauai in April. Did not care for the area where Coconut Beach resort was. We stayed at Waikomo Stream Villas which were very reasonable $90 per night. We were very leary but it turned out to be a large condo (1100 sq ft). Not on the beach but you could walk to Sheridan. Since were traveled around a lot anyway it really did not matter. We were very pleasantly surprised with how nice the place was. Had a nice pool and jacuzzi. It is in Poipu. They have a website under Grantham Resorts. The Hyatt is a few minutes by car and you must go there just to walk around the grounds. It is one of the most beautiful hotels I've seen.
