Kauai Coast Resort
Im planning my honeymoon at the Kauai Coast Resort, but the web-site is limited in details, location, weather, activities etc. I like the condo feel, but I dont know what the property is like. I will be there for 5 days. Is this a good choice and are we near the North and South of the island as the property is located on the east end of the Island. Also, whats the east end like near Coconut Marketplace? Thanks

I have not stayed at Kauai Coast Resort but I have stayed at the Aston Islander near the Coconut market place.
Note: the beach is good for walking but it is often too rough for swimming.
It is convenient being near the coconut market place. You will be a 5 minute drive from Lydegate Park where thanks to a good break wall swimming is always possible. We liked this location because it is about half way between the North and South coasts.

You might want to consider Maui in October. You are pushing towards the rainy season on the North Shore. The North shore is the most gorgeous side. You are 30 minutes from the North Shore and 30 or more from the southern, sunny side. Waimea Canyon and Kokee area again are North but western and they may feel the impacts of rain also. Big Island is another alternative during that time. You can still go and hit nice weather but I would think you are going to hit some rain.

The westest spot on earth is on Kauai so you really should not underestimate the rainy season. It will rain on North Shore, that means the Napali Coast (what most people come to see in Kauai), Kokee area that is also North but northwest. I am guessing that this rain will reach down into the Canyon Area. Poipu does not deserve a trip on it's own. They say that October is it's last dry month but do you want to chance it on your honeymoon. May is spring here but how many Mays can you remember where there were still April showers. I lived on Oahu for three years. I did not know a lot of people that would venture to Kauai in non-summer months. Maui is equally beautiful, and the volcano on the big island at night is spectacular.Just a thought. It can still be beautiful in the rain if you are not able to change plans. I would buy "the ultimate guide to hawaii", Andrew Doughty, come in the right gear and you can do some incredible hiking even if you don't escape the rain. But some reading has suggested to me that some hikes in Kokee are dangerous when there is rain because of flash flooding. I am sorry I hate to sound like doom and gloom here. I love Kauai. I just know the dream image most people have of the Island is on the wet side. Just a friendly warning.

Dave,
If you mean the Kauai Coconut Beach Resort, it has been going downhill for quite sometime. We won't even go to the restaurant anymore. It used to have a great fresh fish buffet but from what I gathered on the last trip over, a lot of the cooks quit to open up their own places, so the quality went downhill.
We've also stayed at The Islander. Nice 1-2 star hotel. Aston runs it now.
Agree with beach comments by "xxx.xxx".
The Coconut Coast isn't as "pretty" as the No or So Shores but it's centrally located, lot of good restaurants within walking distance, grocery stores and a Long's Drugs/pharmacy. More locals than Poipu/Princeville. Good mixture of condos and hotels.
Mahalo,
Kal

Zachary,
So the Kauai Coast Resort is the one next door to the Islander and just recently remodeled?
Used to be a Sheraton, if I recall correctly? If it is, nice pool/bar area.
The other hotel I was thinking of had the Flying Lobster Restaurant in it and did the luau. Up near Margarita's. I don't want to be dissing the wrong place!
Thx,
Kal
