Kauai and teenagers
My family is traveling to Kauai(4 days) and Oahu (2 days) in April '99. My teens want to sunbathe and snorkel. Questions: 1)will there be other teens on Kauai or is this really a mecca for honeymooners? 2) is there good snorkeling & sunbathing or should we reserve that for Oahu (also want to go to Pearl Harbor)?

Barb,
My wife and I just returned from a short post-Christmas trip to Kauai. While we didn't notice many teenages, unless yours are dedicated party animals, there should be plenty to keep them busy during a four day stay with several good places for water sports and sunbathing.

Hyatt in Kauai is a great place for amilies. We saw lots of kids there. Snorkelling, I don't know. We were there in the summer and the water was even to rough for swimming. I think they would enjoy snorkellin at Hanauma Bay in Waikiki(outside thereof) In the summer, the north shore was the better place to snorkel, but my husband didn't find it so great. He said the best place for my son to snorkel in Hawaii was Hanauma Bay and the snorkelling lagoon at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island. My kids liked this property over the many others we have stayed at - monorail, 3 pools, arcade, fitness centre, Dolphinquest, manmade pool with paddleboats, etc. and snorkelling complete with green sea turtles. Let me know if you have more questions. Annemarie

We took our 10&13 year old boys to the Marriott property on Kauai for Christmas of 1998. They rate this resort as one of their all time favorites. They loved the private beach for boogie boarding. There were many organized children's activities where they met other kids. They truly want to go back. The island is very beautiful, but does not have as much to do as Maui.

we spent 10 days in Poipu Beach at the Lawai Beach Resort. It's a wonderful place to stay. We had 3 families w/ 3 condos staying. ages of kids 15-20. boys enjoyed the golf courses ...and we were right on the best beach in Kauai. great snorkeling. beautiful sunsets. would not suggest the helicopter rides or deep sea fishing if kona winds are up. enjoy. we hope to be back christmas 2000.
