Kate Spade Knock-Offs in New York?
Hi,
In addition to great dining, shows, and sightseeing, of course our trip to NY will have to include major shopping. One of the things I'd like to find is a Kate Spade purse -- a fake one.
Does anyone know where I can find good (and cheap) Kate Spade knock-off purses in NYC when I'm there this summer? Will be staying in Times Square. I once heard Canal St. and Broadway. Is this true? What streets is Canal close to? Are there other places?
Thanks

Whenever you see street vendors selling purses there is a good chance they will be selling Kate Spade knock offs. Canal street is as good a place as any for all kinds of knock offs. Don't have names of any specific places but Canal Street is easy to get to from Times Square. Take an N or R train from the Times Square station and get off at Canal Street. When there you could visit both Chinatown and Little Italy. Canal is dividing line between both - Chinatown is south of Canal; Little Italy is north. Mulberry St is main street in Little Italy; Mott St in Chinatown. I have a list of more than 100 sights in NYC divided into areas. If interested e-mail me and I will send you a copy.

they are all over the place. you can even bargain a little , especially if noone else is around. The best deals a probably on canal street near broadway but you can find them almost anywhere now. Canal is not near times sq, although you can take the r, n, 1 or 9 subway from times sq to canal st. it owuld take maybe 10 min. Canal is downtown, a little north of chambers st (city hall) and south of soho.

The Canal and Broadway area is the place where you'll most consistently find knock-offs but you might check 33rd street at the corner of Broadway next to the Manhattan Mall and also on 34th by the corner of 8th Ave. Broadway in the stretch from 28th -33rd also (sometimes) has knock-off vendors.

Thank you, Ross. I appreciate the compliment.
I'm just trying to add a dose of reality to this theater of the absurb. Think about it: People are asking publicly for information on supporting criminal activity, i.e., where to buy illegally produced merchandise, for which the manufacturers can be fined and/or sent to jail!
PS: One of the fun sights of the NY street scene is to watch these sellers of illegal merchandise scattering when the police show up.
PPS: If you like the Kate Spade Knock-Offs, you'll love the ersatz designer watches you can pick up for $10-20. They're guaranteed to work until you get back to you hotel.

Oh, L, you'll have to look elsewhere for your retirement fund--you've been beat. Kate Spade's husband has already started a line of bags for men called Jack Spade (though his name's Andy; he's brother of the whiny, annoying David Spade). Well, maybe you could make a small nest egg manufacturinf *fake* ones...

Kate Spade bags are the hip and trendy bags of choice -- very popular in NY, little rectangular black label that says "kate spade new york." The bags are in the same style vein as the smaller Herve Chappelier bags -- sometimes vinyl, sometimes cloth, sometimes synthetic leather, either black or in bright colors, meant to be worn (obviously) with the label facing outwards.
I live in NY and only know one person who has a real one; everyone else's are fake. I will not name names so that they don't get arrested (kidding). I also sometimes wonder if the ones with sewn on labels that you buy on the street aren't 'real' ones that have somehow evaded Bergdorf's and made their way onto the sidewalk...

Another area to buy bags is in the midtown area off Broadway in the upper 20's, lots of stores that are wholesale only, but you can buy in there as well. I saw a couple of great bags there last night. Also jewelry in that area for good prices.
Enjoy your trip to the city.
