What if Mom is 95% finished with finding the cure for cancer -- is she expected to stop her research to please the town council?

Why would one even go there anyway? It is in Utah after all.

I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which is a very conservative CRC area and there are some people around here believe it is a "sin" to work in your yard on Sundays. (and yes, I DO mow my lawn on Sundays - not to be a brat, but it just seems to work out that it's the most convenient day. But I always make sure to wave and smile a great big smile at the glaring neighbors though. I'm hoping my positive energy will rub off on them.)

Both of my great kids are home sick with the flu....good to be a stay-at-home mom on these days ....so I hadn't checked back since posting. Glad to hear that many share my sentiments. Well LN, I think it would be best to get out of Afghanistan before converting. There is a man in Afghanistan right now that is being threatened with a death sentence because several years ago he converted to Christianity.

Utah is such a great place to visit - amazing scenery, great skiing and hiking. I wonder how different it would be without such a heavy-handed religous influence.

I know this is not responsive to the original question, but I do love Utah as tourist destination (in fact, we're planning a winter and a spring break vacation there next year), but I know I could never live there.

It was interesting to compare how we raise our kids to a Mormon river guide we had. He was a great kid and a great guide. He was a HS senior and we asked him what his plans were after he graduated. While 96% of the kids in our school district go on to college, he was planning on going on a Morman mission. We asked where he was going, and he had no idea. Where-ever, they tell me, he replied.

Boycotting a city because they believe in a "tradition family"? How stupid to even bring it up!

There are many arguments for or against "traditional families".

I can think of many other better reasons to boycott a city or state.

#1 reason is if a city or state supports a lie based war in Iraq and supports the person(s) who lied and started the war based on the lies!

Has anyone mentioned the "other barb" of the resolution, i.e., the traditional family? That means no gay partnerships I'm afraid, and of course that added to stay-at-home Dads where Mom has a good employment situation. Or however those single parents...
where do they fit in? And yes, some grandparents are called upon to raise kids.

I resent Mormons (or any other religious folks) foisting their narrow values on others, although I don't see that any resolution makes much difference. Yes, let's do distinguish between the fundamentalist strain and other more tolerant LDS.
