Kaena Point - Oahu west shore
I was trying to find some information on the Kaena Point area on Oahu. I found something about a hike, and was wondering if that area of the island is accessible. Is it worth the time to visit that area? Tried a couple of forum searches, but came up almost empty. Any tips?

There's no need to re-post. Just add on to your prior post to bump it to the top. Re-posting just moves someone else's posting farther down.
Also, you've reposted after only 2 hours on a holiday weekend. Have more patience.
Why didn't you try Google? I found several posts about hiking in that area.

The road ends about 3 miles from the point if you are on the Leeward (west) side. It also ends about 3 miles from the point if you are on the North Shore.
It is a really nice hike. It is an easy hike as it is an old road that washed out in the 60's. You may see some monk seals or sea birds. Or even whales in the winter.
If you are going to hike to the point from either direction, take lots of water as there is no shade. Also leave no valuables in your car.

This is another link you can find on google, which will give you links to other trails throughout the state:
http://www.hawaiiweb.com/html/hiking...int_trail.html
I have never done the trail myself, but when they used to have the Perimeter Relays around the island, we used to make the youngest or the sturdiest person take that leg! then again, that's for running...

I re-posted because I was trying to link it to Hawaii the 2nd time.
I also thought I could delete my original post like other forums I've participated in.
Why not Google? Because I trust the information from people on Fodors forums and wanted info from them.
Sorry if I wasted your time - it wasn't meant to be.

I have friends that go fishing in that area. As previous posters said, it's quite scenic and isolated.
Having said that, you should know that, if coming from the Leeward side (Waianae, Makaha side), well, simply put, it's not the safest of areas. I would have no problem going there during the day, but I would not advise being in the area at night.
And NEVER leave valuables in your car as you go on that hike.
