Why don't you consider the Paris. It is opening on Sept. 1st. Being a Park Place Entertainment ( Hilton ) property, the opening should go pretty smoothly without all of the problems that the Venetian and Mandalay Bay had. Room rates are more reasonable at the Paris.

Of course the rates at Paris are more reasonable: Their standard rooms are only 400 sq. ft., quite small for my tastes! And quite frankly, because of that alone, what could have turned out to be one of the BEST hotels on the strip has now turned into a disaster as far as I'm concerned!!

My wife and I just returned from Vegas, and we had a wonderful time at Mandalay. The pool area is everything good that you've heard, complete with cooling water-misters everywhere. And the lagoon pool,(there are 3 or 4 outdoor pools), was it's own wave machine and beach... kinda neat, and certainly entertaining to watch the kidlets running screaming at then away from the uncoming wave! The hotel itself is one of the classiest, notably for not having a "theme" like Mirage or Ceasers or Luxor etc. We also liked that the lobby is apart from the casino... unlike others where as soon as you step in the door the casino is blaring in your face. We had no problem with check-in, and tho check-out is busy at 11am, they had at least 8 lines with clerks to move things along pretty efficiently. What ever you do... don't order from room service unless you have a large business account!!! We were on the 33rd floor and had a wonderful view of the strip, airport, mountains... everything. And the Mandalay towers over the Luxor... absolutely dwarfs it. The casino is very nice and not so noisy or flashy... very nice. As compared to the Venetian, a cabbie told us that they had $ problems, and construction has come to a halt. It looks great from the outside, but is still not finished. He also said that they raised the slot/poker machine odds to make more money, but we talked to someone else who said she did pretty well there. My wife and I are in our early 40's and Mandalay was our favorite by far! Next on the list were Mirage, Caesers (you gotta see the Forum shops), with Rio (for its open bar at the top on the 51st floor),and MGM next(that place is so huge, it is hard to imagine!)
